Incorporation of Visuals into Reports

Directions

Using two visuals (one "stolen"researched one and one that you create on your own (chart/graph/diagram),perform the steps of visual incorporation as discussed in the module's lecture two times total, once for each visual. Also, create a list of illustrations for your two visuals. Please read the steps carefully for tips.

Step 1: Find one researched visual that pertains to your report’s purpose.

Step 2: Write aheadingfor the section in which the image would appear. (Tip: Insert a text box for heading. Use Wrap Text feature for formatting.)

Step 3:Then, write thecopysection (aka “chunk” or “paragraph”) above or to the left of the image that describes the picture and your point. Include asignal phrasein this copy.(Tip: To develop this paragraph’s content, breakdown the visual’s information using specific analysis. If you are looking at numbers, give a full, complete explanation of the numbers. Don’t simply summarize in the paragraph. TECH TIP: Insert a text box for the copy. Use Wrap Text feature for formatting.)

Step 4:Title your picture(placement=your CONSISTENT choice). Add afigure #andcaptionthat reflects your report’s slant/purpose below your image. Keep items consistent with all other images and figures. (Tip: Remember, caption text boxes should be the same size as the visual and the font should be significantly smaller than the font of your paragraph.)

NOW REPEAT THE PROCESS FOR THE NEXT VISUAL.

Step 5: Once you completed the “researched” visual incorporation, create a chart/graph using numbers you have researched about your topic. Play with various graph options in Word.

Step 6:Write aheading.

Step 7:Write acopyandsignal phrasefor the graph.

Step 8:Add atitle(placement=your choice, consistent with prior title placement),figure #, andcaptionthat reflects your report’s slant/purpose for the graph. Keep items consistent.

Step 9:Be sure to title and label all parts of the chart/graph.

Step 10:Create a mini “List of Illustrations” using both visuals. Include the figure number of your visual and title of your visual. Also, make up page numbers for these visuals.

Use samples, lecture, and text box tutorial for additional help(see the attachment).

Important:

1. This assignment is Visual Report that focus on business problem. So the papershould not have too much of a loose definition, rather than a focus on one company's problem.

2.For visuals, your list of illustrations titles must match figure titles in report

Part II:

Using the Visual Incorporation(part I you made) and this week's word choice and pronoun checklists(see the attachment),revise your visual incorporation project, focusing on tweaking your word choice and creating a more professional tone. You MUST use the word choice checklist in the module to revamp your work.

You will be graded solely on content and mechanics, not design.

Part III (about 250 words is good enough, and only this part will due on 11/11):

Write a question regarding the lecture, resources, samples,or assignments(Part II).Don't just write a one-line question.Expand,discuss,elaborate.A good individual post should be a decent paragraph(please don't make me count sentences or ask me how many sentences should be in a paragraph).Just make a nice chunk of discussion.

If you don't have a question, bring an experience, resource,or your own expertise regarding the lecture to the discussion board.Again, make a good chunk of discussion that fully elaborates on your piece of information.

PART 1 INCORPORATION OF VISUALS INTO REPORTS
PURPOSE
The purpose of this activity is to carry out the understand the business problem of an organization with the help of visuals & report. We have considered a sales transactional dataset of one of the chain of Superstore at
US.
The dataset consists of transactional id and the product corresponding to that particular ordered, mode of transport. Each product is categorised into particular categories and subcategories.
Figure 1 – Sample snapshot of Dataset
VISUALIZATION:
1) BAR GRAPH:
Scope – We will analyse the pattern of sales in various subcategories across different categories.
Figure 2 – Bar Graph
Conclusion (Category wise) -
1) Furniture-
Chairs has maximum share in the sales, but there is not much difference between the Chairs and the Book cases.
2) Office Supplies-
Storage has maximum share in the sales. Additionally, around 50% of the share in Office supplies is accounted by Storage and Appliances. There is a huge gap in the contribution between the first Two and the others.
3) Technology-
Phones has maximum share in the sales and followed by the Copiers- which together account for 50% of total Technology sales.
Recommendation –
From the above analysis it is required to focus on Office supply category where we have very small contribution within the sub-categories as compared to other
2) QUADRANT ANALYSIS:
Scope - Here we will try to find out the discounting pattern on various products & whether the discounts given on various products is really a profitable deal or not.
By doing the Quadrant analysis, the products are segregated into four quadrants, according to the Average Discount and Profit Ratio (Profit per unit of sale)
Figure 3 – Quadrant Analysis
Conclusion -
The products falling into Upper Right Quadrant are- Higher Discount and High Profit Ratio
The products falling into Upper Left Quadrant are- Lower Discount and High Profit Ratio
The products falling into Lower Right Quadrant are- Higher Discount and Low Profit Ratio
The products falling into Lower Left Quadrant are- Lower Discount and Low Profit Ratio
Recommendation –
So, we need to concentrate on those particular products which are falling into lower right quadrant- where the discounts are high but the profits on those particular products are low- Therefore it is not a favourable condition to give discounts on these products. (Rita L. Sallam, 2011)
3) PARETO ANALYSIS:
Scope - Here we will identify those products which are contributing the most to our total sales.
Figure 4 – Pareto Analysis
Conclusion -
By drawing the Two -coloured Pareto chart we get to know how many products are contributing to the 75% of the total sales. These products can easily...
