Part II:
reply each of the post below.
1.Allison Graham, the speaker in the video, had great points on how socialization has been diminishing with the increase use of technology.Although I agree with her discussion, I am guilty of a lot of these things. One of her examples showed people out to dinner and all of them were on their phones. This happens almost every timeI am out and everyone jokes about being on their phones. The negative of this situation is there is no communication happening. When their is no communication, there is no growth in the relationship, friendship, etc.Textingwas also discussed in her lecture. She reported statistics that texting and driving was the number one cause of death in teens. Using "textlanguage" diminishing one's ability to express themselves and communicate adequatly.
With the ease of having Facebook on our phones, everyone is constantly browsing Facebookwhen they feel they need to stay updated. These updates are not necessarily anything of value. I see more value in staying updated through face to face communication with our family, peers and coworkers for example. Facebook is creating a loss of communication. Graham discussed people feeling that others should know about other's lives through Facebook and that they didn'tfeel they needed to discuss their lives becauseit was already posted on Facebook.
The Washington Post article on online dating relates to people being engulfed in their phone screen. The women at the bar browsing on an online dating site and neglecting to talk to people sittingat the bar is absolutely terrible in my opinion. The articlecontinues to discuss positive aspects of onlinedating and how it is moving people towards marriage more so than traditional dating.Online dating can also create a false image. Pictures can easily be edited and create a false image of who they are talking to.I understand that some people may have successes with this form of dating, but I think that it is hindering other important components of what dating entails.
2.After reading and watching the videos I personally would say that social media and online dating both have a positive and negative effect on relationships. In the video "Look Up" we see a different view of the world. A negative is we are constantly worried about checking our phone and not engaging with anyone around us. I am guilty of this. Sometimes when I constantly look down at my phone I don't look or speak to anyone around me. What can we possibly know what is going on when out eyes are glued to the screen. The video says "So look up from your phone, shutdown the display, take in your surroundings, and make the most of today." This meaning it can make a difference with making connections with people and being able to have a moment you will remember forever. Lastly, another downfall is that according to Allison Graham in her video "How social media makes us unsocial" texting and driving is the #1 killer for teenagers. Graham states that "driving at 55 mph and looking down at your phone for 5 seconds you drove the distance of a football field blindly."Getting the last word in or getting a notification about someone posting a photo can cost you your life. After all, it can wait.
As for positive effects on social media and online dating, I do believe that social media is great for expressing the type of person you are and the conncections with different people. Everyday you are able to post your hobbies and interest without hesitation because it's what you like. Your feed is based on the person you are such as a traveler, a sport lover, a fitness model, and so much more. Being able to stay connect with family and friends is on of the best aspects to social media. As for online dating, some people may find it more convenient just to swipe on apps such as "Tinder" or "Bumble" rather than go out in person to find their "perfect match". Also depending on how busy one's life can be, online dating apps are an easier way to find someone. There are many stories of different people on all social media platforms that have found their significant others on apps. Everyday we decide how connected we want to be with the world through social media and without social media. As we get older the more we use technology no matter the positive or negative effects, we will find a way to keep in touch with one another.
