Part I: Research Scenario The mayor of a mid-sized town is concerned about gun violence and has asked you to conduct a quantitative study to identify characteristics of youthful offenders who commit crimes with firearms. The mayor’s goal is to reduce juvenile gun violence in the community. Address the following: · Identify four data collection tools you could use to collect quantitative data to conduct this research. · How do the four tools differ, and how would the collected data differ in addressing the overarching research question regarding juvenile gun violence in the community? · Which descriptive statistics would you use to examine the characteristics of youth who commit firearm offenses? Explain how these measures would permit you to effectively address the main research question. · Explain how the normal distribution (bell curve) can be used to analyze the quantitative data on the characteristics of the youthful offenders. · Based on the unit reading and resources, discuss policies and practices you would recommend the mayor implement to address juvenile gun violence. Be sure to cite to and reference your sources. Part II: Quantitative Measures Review Table 1: Percentage of Boys Involved in Delinquency, by Gun Ownership Status in Lizotte & Sheppard (2001), and discuss your responses to the following questions: · What is the unit of analysis? · What variables are presented in the table and the attributes for each? · What descriptive statistics are presented in the table? · What conclusions can you draw from the table about delinquent boys and gun ownership? Reference Lizotte, A., & Sheppard, D. (2001). Gun use by male juveniles: Research and prevention. OJJDP Juvenile Justice Bulletin, 2. United States Department of Justice.

Part I – Research Scenario
· The four data collection tools that can be utilised are: panel, cohort, interview, and police/government/healthcare (secondary data).
· Panel
data collection is a type of longitudinal study where the same set of respondents is surveyed on the same set of attributes over a period of time. In this scenario, such a data collection tool will help to investigate and capture the psychological changes in the criminal behaviour of the juvenile who is turning adult. Cohort data, again a longitudinal study, breaks the whole set of respondents into small groups called cohorts and then each cohort is observed over time. Here, we can observe the behavioural change and the type of delinquency of cohorts comprising juveniles indulging in gun violence or not. Under interview methods, the respondents are personally approached by the researcher to get more exact and detailed information required for the study. In such studies, through such a tool, we can collect data from the victims or their neighbours or caretakers. The data will provide an in-depth overview of the juvenile’s criminal intentions. The secondary data is the already available information that can be readily used. Such a type of data is filtered and is a good fit for any study. In this scenario, we can obtain data from police/government/healthcare to understand the criminal psychology of the juvenile.
· The mean can be used to calculate central tendency. This will depict the approximate number of people belonging to groups such as juveniles with guns or without guns indulging in violence and creating social mishaps. The data can also be in the form of proportions which can be pictorially represented through a pie chart....
