Part I:

Step 1: Using the job posting from Project 1: Job Posting Analysis(see the attachment), create a resume that illustrates your experience and credentials for this particular job.

Step 2: Decide on a resume style/format: Will a work history format or a functional/skills format work better for your job pursuit?

Step 3: Decide on a “container” for your resume. Choose a template from Word or design your own document.

Step 4: Create the content for your resume. Consider guidelines from notes. You should complete the following sections (order may vary depending on your posting, experience, and situation):

  1. HEADING (watch out for grammar errors here, make a visual impression)

  2. PROFILE (section has various labels: qualifications, summary of qualifications, professional skills, overview, profile, summary – you pick!) Although this section is placed at the start of your document, write this section last since it is a summary of your resume. See the various samples posted in the module.

  3. EDUCATION (spell out and stress your degree; include institution, location, year of completion or range of years for coursework)

  4. WORK EXPERIENCE (include position title, employer, location, dates, and three duties written in verb phrases. Write in reverse chronological order with most recent experience on top). If you choose a “functional/skills” resume, breakdown your various skill categories and provide a quick list of positions and employers (see sample).

  5. One or more “EXTRA” section: volunteer, community service, awards.

  6. REFERENCES: you should include at least two well-designed references. Do NOT write “furnished upon request”

Your completed final draft will have:

  1. Aesthetically pleasing, professional design

  2. Consistency in formatting

  3. Heading

  4. Profile

  5. Education

  6. Work History OR Skills (depending on resume format/style)

  7. Achievements/Awards – or some form of extra

  8. References

  9. docx & .pdf file with proper filename

*Please note “objective” is often not required anymore, as it has been replaced by the profile/summary of qualifications section, but you MAY still want to use one in your resume since the older generation still expects to see it.

You also might find your own titles for these various required sections. Obviously, you do not need to use my exact wording from the assignment sheet.

Part II(150 -200 words is good enough):

write a question regarding the lecture, resources, samples,or assignments.Don't just write a one-line question.Expand,discuss,elaborate.A good individual post should be a decent paragraph(please don't make me count sentences or ask me how many sentences should be in a paragraph).Just make a nice chunk of discussion.

If you don't have a question, bring an experience, resource,or your own expertise regarding the lecture to the discussion board.Again, make a good chunk of discussion that fully elaborates on your piece of information.

Part III:

reply to the following posts.(in short 50-100 words)

post 1:

For this discussion module, I decided to give a brief account of my past experiences in the workforce. As of late, I have been trying to tailor my resume according to the job of my interest, however, I still find it difficult to create a resume with the essential keywords and experiences that the company is looking for. I have to say, I’m much better at cover letters than resumes as this is an area I struggle in. Like I mentioned in previous posts, most of the jobs I apply to are management related so my resume already has some important keywords, but at the moment I’m stepping out of my comfort zone and applying to more technical fields that I do not have so much experience in, but are more degree focused. The job that I found for last week’s module was that of a business analyst, and I actually fit the requirements perfectly. Finding the right way to tailor my resume according to this job will be a challenge. I remember when I was interviewing candidates for the company I worked for, I used to scan resumes for certain experiences/titles and if I couldn't find them I would throw them out, regardless if the candidate was qualified or not. I know for a fact I got rid of resumes of very capable individuals, that perhaps with a little patience and training would have succeeded, but my supervisor always wanted to make sure that the candidates we would hire weren't overqualified or underqualified so certain criteria had to be met. I’m definitely looking forward to this week’s project!

Post 2:

My process for writing the profile section of my resume is to first, think about all the jobs and responsibilities I have had in the past that are relevant and relate to the new job I am applying for. I’m going to mention as many things as possible, but I mostly want to go into detail about the things that would make sense and my employer would be interested in reading about. Then I’m going to write about those jobs and responsibilities. I want to keep it interesting and relevant to show that I am qualified and have as much experience as possible. I want to make sure I direct my resume specifically to the company I am applying for and I want to make sure the employer reading my resume feels as though I am talking directly to them. This will keep my resume personal and make them feel like I truly do care about getting the job and doing the best I can! My question for this module is does anyone think sounding too personal in your resumecan also make you sound unprofessional? What do you guys think is the perfect mix of both?

Example:

I think that is such a good experience and learning opportunity you had!You got to go through other people's resumes and see what mistakes they made and what they should've done to fix it from the employer's point of view! you are lucky because you have more experiencewith creating a resume and you are morefamiliar with it because of this. Lucky you!
