PHASE 1

  • What kind of words (mostly adjectives, yet might be others as well) would you use about yourself (as a leader)? The idea is to explore your resources/strengths, so formulate the words positively or in a neutral manner. Write a list of words that come into your mind in less than 10 minutes. Let's call that LIST A.
  • Leave the list of adjectives aside for awhile.

PHASE 2

  • Ask feedback from people who know you, interview and ask that they tell you a list of adjectives that they relate to you. It would be nice if you would get them to elaborate thewords and tell examples. Practice listening. Write a list of all the adjectives that were related to you by anyone you interviewed. That is your LIST B.

PHASE 3

  • Choose one leadership theory from your course book. You do not have to explain the theory. Yet, you are expected to create a list of words that describe a leader in the theory. Let's call that LIST C.

PHASE 4

Most likely, the adjectives are somewhat different. Therefore, do not be too literal with the adjectives, group similar type as a category. Example. Adjectives "kind" and "friendly" could be form as a category and interpret to be the same for the purpose of this assignment even though they are not exact synonyms. After you have categorized the articles and you have your lists ready.

  • Compare the three lists you have now.
  • How are A similar/different compared to the peer list B?
  • How is your list A similar/different to the theory list C?
  • How similar/different are lists B and C?
  • Fill in Johari window.

Modified Johari Window

  • How would you reflect the result? What about the process here? What kind of emotions and thoughts it evoked in you?
  • Set one development goal for yourself based on this analysis, explain shortly what kind action will you take in developing that and who will help you and how would you motivate (lead) them in helping you.

Your thinking and action process is quite elaborated here, but your report consists of the title of your chosen theory, your Johari Window and 1 - 3 paragraphs of your reflections concerning what the process opens about your strengths related to leadership theory, your self-awareness and development. The overall length of your report does not exceed 600 words.
