Capstone Project, you will continue researching and developing your understanding of issues related to your selected topic: Gun Violence, Illegal Immigration, or #MeToo movement. 1. First, you will read several articles and review other multimedia pieces that offer real-world solutions to your selected topic. Start with the collections of stories (and videos) from SolutionsU website, but of course, you can research solutions on your own. Gun Violence: Solutions for Mass Shooting Illegal Immigration: Solutions for Immigration and Refugees #MeToo Movement: Solutions for Violence against Women 2. Once you find a solution to your topic that you feel strongly about, share it with other students in the same topic area in the designated Discussion Forum. When composing your post, consider the following questions: o What is the solution you have found, and why have you selected it? o How does this solution attempt to address the problem that you stated in Part 1 of the project? o What type of evidence is available in your resource (or what other information you would need to know) in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the solution? Too bad you didn't pose a critical question to any of your peers or reconstruct an argument from the reading, since the omission of both of these really hurt your grade. Always read the instructions carefully, OK? Going forward, I'd like to see you sharpen your argumentative strategy -- what's your principal claim? That will be your overall conclusion. State it out the outset, so your readers know where you stand. What's the best way to persuade your readers of your of that claim? Find specific, credible evidence to support your principal claim, and document it. That will be your premises. Importantly, what possible objections could be made against your main claim, and how will you respond to those rebuttals? I'll be interested in your answers to each of these questions. You also should devise a nuanced standard format argument reconstruction or argument map of your reasoning that you can develop and refine as you move through the Capstone Project -- see the Unit 2.2 video for instructions on how to create both of these. It also might be a good idea to start an Excel spreadsheet to keep statistics related to gun violence, along with citations of the sources for the statistics (proper citation is extremely important for you -- use the APA style). It's also a useful way to keep selected quotes from authorities in the area. Once you've got your statistics, you can then use Excel's graphing functions to add visuals to your Final Capstone Project. I'm really looking forward to the next stage of your Capstone Project!
