Objective of the Lab:
The objective of this lab experiment
is to measure the acceleration due to gravity of a falling object with the use of a simple pendulum. This is based on the assumption that the only force that is acting in this case is the force of gravity or the gravitational force.
Theory:
Acceleration due to gravity is generally defined as the acceleration due to the force of gravitation of the earth. This is a vector quantity as it has both magnitude and direction and is represented by ‘g’.
The basic equation which describes the motion of a body starting from the position of rest to the position of constant acceleration can be shown as.

Where d is the distance travelled by the pendulum, a is the acceleration of the object and t is the time elapsed from the start. Thus to find out the acceleration we can write the formula as:
