Guests choose the accommodation according to their needs and preferences as a priority. The statement that ‘Commercial hospitality is just an extension of hospitality at home’ is supportable in this context but saying just would somehow be an understatement as it is extension of hospitality in home but also has many aspects to it. This essay will highlight the concept of home, hospitality in home as well as commercial hospitality and will also provide information what influences a guest while searching for an accommodation or being in hospitality. Home The meaning of home is not only comfort but also the experience and bond of a specific quality of a certain place. Dwelling or ‘feeling at home’ has always been human way of living in the world. It is the place where someone belongs in their experience, imagination as well as aspiration. It not only provides physical experience to someone but also provides social life experience, memories and imagination. It is not only a place of dream but a physically occupied place that are part of everyday life. All forms of hospitality fashioned today relates to the concept of home as it is the first form of hospitality. (Roma, 2012) According to Rybczynski (1988) home means gathering of the meaning of house and household, dwelling or refuge, ownership and affection and all brought together. A house is a home but should include everything such as people, sense of satisfaction and things that were in and around it. A home has many meanings for different individuals and is not a simple concept for someone the home may be their birthplace, worksite, memories, and sense of security, where their family is, place of comfort, place of rituals and customs or the idea of freedom respectively. It is also considered as the concept of family and family ties for some individuals. Above all, the home is a place where someone feels secure stable and where the roots of and individual are connected. (Conrad Lashley, 2001) Hospitality and hospitality in home The hospitality has an ancient origin and the concept of hospitality is as old as writing itself as the oldest text found mentioning hospitality was from a literary genre known as Ancient Near East Texts which was almost as old as old testaments and some dates back to 3500 BCS All modern words readily associated with hospitality are evolved from the hypothetical Proto-Indo-European root *ghos-ti which means: stranger, guest and host. According to Higher Education Funding Council - England’s hospitality as ’The provision of food and/ or drink and/or accommodation in a service context’. The base of origination of hospitality is a set of behaviors of a society where there are interchange of fruits of labor with co-relation. Depending upon societies different societies have different obligations to be hospitable which tends to change over a period of time as ‘modernity’. In private level home is where hospitality is learned, it may be seen as producing more genuine and authentic hospitality. (Paul Lynch, 2006) In private or domestic level of hospitality the host introduces guests to their ritual, culture, norms and rules which helps in social setting and is important in order to understand the provision of food, drinks and accommodation in a private or domestic level. Here guest may also evaluate the social connection between the host and themselves and it also provides the host with the opportunity for social display and to build up the social relation and social status. There is an act of friendship through offering food, drink and accommodation where the motive of the guest is not commercially affected and the guests’ welfare, security and pleasure is pre-dominant As an industry hospitality was highlighted in U.S in late 1970’s and early 1980’s. it is a commercially driven with providing hospitality, security to the guests and associated with benefits of welcome for example places like hotels, restaurants, bars and pubs are known as places that provide goods and services in exchange of money. In today’s modern society the duty to protect guest and provide secure accommodation along with sharing food and experiences and maintain a bond is less meaningful than in pre modern society. Some evidence from British history reveals that from 16th and 17th century the social obligation to be hospitable decreased which was more during the medieval age. in today’s context of developed tourism industries hospitality has become more commercial as it is determined by standard of the service provided by host to the guest and serviced quality is gaining more importance than relation quality it is also mainly because the increasing and large number of guest at a particular point of time the host minimum amount of time to build up the relation with the guest and share each other’s experiences and so the service aspect of the hospitality such as technology , infrastructures and other facilities are taking place of the relation quality while some popular destinations have started focusing on the relational as well as cultural aspect of the hospitality as only the service qualities are not enough for the guests to be fully satisfied. (Pechlaner Harald, 2016) Commercial home/hospitality Commercial home means types of accommodation in a private home where guests or visitors stays in exchange for money. In commercial home the concept of home plays an important role as it involves close interactions between the guest and the host. Commercial hospitality is directly influenced by the hospitality at home and it is also very important for the hospitality providers to understand and develop the bonding and long term customer relationship many of the successful hosts are able to make loyal guests by being able to engage customers on both personal and emotional level. Commercial hospitality concept depend on the interchange money on the accommodation services and facilities obtained by the guests. the primary focus on commercial hospitality is to provide standard service and improve its quality in order to satisfy guests, receive minimum complaints, guest revisit by maintaining regular customers and ultimately gain profit while there is minimum focus on developing socialization and interchanging of experiences also the guest also has minimum sense of domestic context as it allows the guest with freedom of not to worry about being a host at any point of time. (Paul Lynch, 2006) The ideas of home however has influenced travelers while searching for the accommodation as the concept of home is related to security and comfort. Many hospitality sectors ho with the saying home away from home or feel like home. In today’s commercial hospitality and technological era travelers the search for a traveler’s accommodation is influenced by high quality service and comfort provided in the accommodations also there are many online comments available today that provide reviews of the destined accommodation that influences the traveler’s search for the accommodation. (Seba, 2011) Conclusion The above essay highlights and provides information regarding the concept of home, hospitality in home and commercial hospitality as well as how the commercial hospitality is an extension of hospitality in home. in a nutshell it can be said that the concept of home varies from individual to individual as for someone it may relate to the birth place ,memories and families for some it may be a place of their security and comfort along with a place that has physical materials to it while hospitality in home is actually the origin of hospitality as it captures the essence of social and cultural value between the host and the guest on provision of providing food, drink and accommodation with no commercial agenda and the guest-host relation in pre-dominant. on the other hand commercial hospitality is related to the commercial aspect of the hospitality where the relation building is less important and the perception to provide facilities and earn profit is more dominant. Also in today’s context travelers search more comfort and facilities while searching for their accommodation as well as the ongoing trend of commercial home is taking heights. Considering the popularity of homely experience at the time of travelling, hospitality organisations are offering hospitality services that nurture the idea that commercial hospitality is an extension of hospitality at home instead of offering comfortable lodging experience.
