You have decided to apply for funding for a project. This assignment is your project application. The Project Application Choose one of the above key areas of focus. You need to address all of the three components below in your project application. Component 1: PROJECT DESCRIPTION 200 words Provide details of the project for which you would be seeking funding. Response to this criterion should include the following: · a description of your proposed project · a demonstration of how your proposed project addresses your key area of focus and the specific problem area it addresses. Component 2: NEED AND BENEFIT 300 words Demonstrate the need for your proposed project and the benefits it will deliver to achieve the desired outcomes of this grant opportunity. The response to assessment criterion 2 should include demonstration of the following: · why your proposed project is needed, including evidence of gaps in knowledge and how your project differs from, or builds upon, existing activities that already are in place to address the same problem · the long term benefits your proposed project will deliver to the scientific community and society. understanding. Component 3: PROJECT ACTIVITIES 800 words You should provide a Project Plan which describe how you will go about doing your project. Your project plan should be presented under the following headings: · Aims / Objective(s) / Hypothesis (what is your project trying to achieve?) · A description of the setting, participants and resources (what do you need to achieve your project?) · Experimental design and/or activities (how will you conduct your project?) · Anticipated outcomes (what do you think will be the result of your project? Component 3: MULTI-DISCIPLINARITY 200 words The response to criterion 3 should include: · a description of the contribution made by specific disciplines to your proposed project, and · a justification for why a multi-disciplinary approach is required to address this key area of focus. Some possible projects · Vegetable gardens in primary schools: This intervention project will establish and evaluate vegetable gardens in 6 low socio-economic status primary schools · Football and clinical depression: This research project will explore why there is an association between retired football players and clinical depression · The impact of lock-out laws: This research project will explore how lock-out laws impact on young people’s drinking behaviours · Developing new biomarkers to diagnose concussion- This research project will explore how to identify new biomarkers to standardise the diagnosis of a concussion · How do we do assess the presence of abnormal proteins within the brain during life? This research project will look at ways to diagnose neurodegenerative diseases during life using new technologies Assignment format Write this assignment in report format, using headings and paragraphs. Use font type and size, margins, and line spacing that makes it easy to read (e.g. Times New Roman size 12, 1.5 line spacing, margins 2.5cm). Figures and tables can be used to summarise information. Figures and tables that have already been published elsewhere can be used in your report, but be sure to reference these appropriately. Referencing You should use published literature wherever possible to justify your proposed project. You may use either the Vancouver (numbering) or Harvard (author-date) referencing style and reference list. Helpful information about referencing is available from the Library and the Writing Centre. Word limit Provide a word count for your assignment. The word limit is 1500 words. You may go 10% under or over this word count. If your word count is below 1350 or above 1650 your mark will be penalized (see marking rubric). Reference lists, graphs, figures, or tables, and their captions, are not included in the word count. If you use the Harvard referencing style, the citations of authors and dates used in your main text are included in the word count. Similarly, if you use the Vancouver referencing style, the citation numbers used in your main text are included in the word count. Submission Submit your assignment before midnight, XXXX on MyUni > Assignments > Assignment 1, which uses Turnitin. Keep a copy of the digital receipt of your assignment submission. Extensions Requests for extensions need to be made by XXXX, by contacting the course tutor (xxxxx,). Extensions will generally be granted only on medical or genuine compassionate grounds. Supporting documentation must be provided at the time a student requests an extension.
