It also aims to identify possible strategies that firms can adopt when considering engaging with international markets. Assessment Description To complete this assessment you will need to use the firm you selected in the Assessment. 1. This report is a summary of the strategy that you propose the firm adopts in the country that you selected in the first assessment 1. The strategy needs to be developed so that it gives the firm and its product the greatest chance of success in the international destination that you chose. The strategy requires that you conduct details research into the country that you have selected and summarising each factor using a heading and then develop a risk table using the sample provided in this assessment to rank the risks facing your business in the destination country. The factors that you will need to research and summarise are: 1. Recent news about the country you selected regarding trade and investment friendliness, international relations between countries and emerging factors affecting market conditions 2. Introduction
The following project report is analysing the risks that Alibaba group may face during doing international business in Malaysia. Ther
e are various factors that Alibaba needs to be considered while operating in any other country. Any firm before operation will conduct a detailed research that will include the political aspect of that country, the social aspect, technological aspect, environmental factors and legal aspects of the country. A firm must consider and try not to disrupt any of the above factors so that the ease of doing business sustains. A detailed review will be conducted in which Alibaba may face certain risk and that needs to be considered before proceeding for the opening of the business in Malaysia.
Current Situation of Malaysia
Malaysia is the thirty fifth largest economy in the world. As mentioned by Longanathan et al., (2017), Malaysian economy is considered as third largest economy in Southeast Asia. Due to the high density of knowledge based industries and adoption of state of art technology for digital economy and manufacturing, Malaysian labour productivity is considered significantly higher than the neighbouring countries like Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines and Vietnam. According to Global Competitiveness Report (2018), Malaysian economy is considered as the twenty fifth most competitive country to work in the world. As per a report published by the World Bank (2013), Malaysia has certain strengths like getting ranked first in getting credit, ranked fourth in protecting the investors and secured fifth rank in doing trade across the borders.
World Bank has also cited certain weakness in which Malaysia scored forty third in dealing with construction permits. The Malaysian government has adopted a more business friendly environment and has set up a special task force that looks after facilitating business named PEMUDAH, which means simpler in Malay. PEMUDAH has been seen largely successful in facilitating a more business friendly environment for the investors. The taxation by the Malaysian government has also been controlled significantly to promote the ease of doing business. The Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia has lowered the effective tax rate to twenty four percent for businesses with capital exceeding the amount of 2.5 million ringgit. For smaller firms however the rate is reduced to nineteen percent. The external trade growth rate has also seen significant improvement in recent years.
Malaysia is world’s largest twenty first largest exporters and twenty fifth largest importers. Malaysia’s largest trading partner is China. China and Malaysia are considered as top partners within ASEAN nations since 2008. Due to the developed trading relation between these two countries they have also agreed upon economic and financial co-operation, especially in railway construction, production of foods and water processing.
