Responses to this case do not wholly depend on students focusing on a specific chapter for a specific case. Instead, the case requires a holistic application of topics broadly discussed throughout the book. It may also be necessary to conduct research to support responses. Leadership and Organizational Perspective The dilemma for the leaders today is to balance culture, organizational needs, fairness, and legal standards. Leaders and employees in general have to contend with the global demographics as diversity is increasing across the world. There can be such effective outcomes as: In the global context, both opportunities and challenges are products of diversity Effective communication can create stronger personal relationships and ties (e.g. effective conflict management) Gaining three critical competencies in the global workplace - communication skills, problem solving skills, and leadership There is a tremendous need to understand some of the key terms of culture, communication, and intercultural communication and be able to navigate this new global context successfully. Failures can be costly. Assignment Context and Details: Perform an analysis on the case of “The impact of cultural differences in offshore outsourcing - Case study results from German-Indian application development projects”. The primary aim is to identify problems or issues that could be resolved using theories and lessons from the course to solve related cultural issues. Your analysis will therefore include solutions and recommendations that can be supported by additional research. Also present any alternate actions that you think could have been taken by the parties involved that would have had a different outcome. As you evaluate the case, also consider implications arising from the topics of interest listed below. Include other areas as you see fit to improve your position or arguments. In-text citations - This is vital to demonstrate absence of plagiarism. Avoid excessive use of quotations and endeavour to use your own words as much as possible. Summarizing or paraphrasing ideas from a source will also need citation. Note that since you will be paraphrasing or quoting from the case/article being analyzed in the assignment, you are expected to treat same as you would any other source - in-text citations and reference list. First-level Headings Explanation Introduction In one to two paragraphs, introduce the topic of your paper giving the reader a clear understanding of what the case/article is about and as well as its relative importance to the field of study. You will set a strong foundation for the analysis and also - Identify the key problems and issues in the case study. Formulate and include a core theme /thesis statement, summarizing the outcome of your analysis in 1–2 sentences. Background The detailed discussion is grounded in the facts as presented in the case or article. Set the scene - important and pertinent background information, relevant facts, and the most important issues. Present a succinct summary that gives the reader precise description of the main issue(s). You should: Present the timeline and important players relating to the events of the case / scenario. Essentially, here is where you provide a very concise and pointed summary of the facts of the case. You MUST include citation from the case/article. You may raise subheadings (levels 2 to 3) as you deem appropriate for your paper Pertinent Course Topics This section should not be excessive. Summarize applicable course topics and identify key concepts and theories that will form the basis of the arguments and ideas that will be presented in the Case Evaluation & Detailed Discussion. Be sure to show your grasp of the subject area and how it relates to the problems or issues of the case. This section is intended for the student to demonstrate their grasp of the course concepts that relate to the issues of the case. Relevant concepts should be identified and presented in concise summary. You MUST include citation from the course text(s). You may raise subheadings (levels 2 to 3) as you deem appropriate for your paper Case Study Analysis Paper 4 Evaluation & Detailed Discussion THIS IS THE MOST SUBSTANTIVE SECTION OF THE PAPER. In this section you will discuss the case/scenario in detail and answer any questions and integrate any topics / prompts required to be addressed in your assignment, providing examples and sound rationale for your arguments. Construct a short title to be used as a subheading (Level 2) that identifies each topic or answer to specific questions raised Consider the influence of both internal and external environments as you analyze the topics / issues in relation to your research findings. Identify, explain and integrate the relevant concepts that were applied in the case/scenario. Demonstrate that you have researched the the arguments presented in the scenario. Essentially, here is where the issues in the case are linked and evaluated against the course concepts. You MUST include citation from all applicable sources. You may raise subheadings (levels 2 to 3) as you deem appropriate for your paper Alternatives Identify concepts and theories that could have been applied in the scenario. Articulate how concepts not used would have changed the outcome. In other words, here is where you identify and present course concepts that could have resulted in a better outcome. You MUST include applicable citations Proposed Solutions / Changes Provide specific and realistic solution(s) or changes needed. Explain the reason for selecting identified solution(s) or changes and support this solution with solid evidence, such as concepts from course material, outside research, and other text readings. Here you build on the alternatives identified, selecting at least one specific and realistic solution or change that you think is required to either correct a problem or to mitigate a problem that might occur in the future. You MUST include citation from all applicable sources. Recommendation Determine and discuss specific strategies for accomplishing the proposed solution. If applicable, recommend further action to resolve the issues identified. Here is where you select at least one strategy from the list of the proposed changes and articulate the who, when, & why to effect the proposed changed in the future. Personal Conclusion You should articulate your overall conclusion that links to your core theme/thesis statement in the introduction. This should only be 1-2 short paragraphs. Here is where you summarize your take on the issues and tie back to your thesis statement/core or central point of your paper that would have been in the introduction Case Conclusion This is the general conclusion to the case. It is a succinct summary of the key elements presented in the case /research findings and would also include all relevant citations. This should only be 1-2 short paragraphs.
