1. In the ancient world of Israel, the common reaction of healthy people towards those that suffered or were afflicted with sickness and disease, was full of unkindness and lacked empathy. The sufferers were despised and rejected by the society of healthy people. They had to live with pain. People held them with low esteem and used to hide their face from them. People thought that those despised people took up all their pain and the purpose of their life was just to suffer. However, those healthy people of the society thought that the sufferers were punished by the God himself.
