Chapter 1: Problem Statement
Introduction to the Research Proposal
Economics is such a subject that is considered as one of the most important and critical subjects as well as in the entire scenario of education (Davis, 2019). However, the reality is this subject requires a lot of patience as well intellect to assimilate this
subject properly. In this present paper, the proposal of the research will be to show whether a blended method of education that is use of both offline and online methods will be enough to grow interest among the students about this subject. In Australia, like the other countries teaching of economics is considered as one of the most difficult task. However in this regard in this research the pros and cons of use of blended method of teaching economics will be discussed. The main essence of the research is if in Australia the blended method for teaching economics is used, will it really work for augmenting the interest of the students for economics.
Background of the Proposed Research
In the modern context of education the subject economics is considered as one of the most tough subjects as this subject requires a lot of intellect for making the understanding well and acquiring the depth of the subject in detail. In this regard if the schools of Australia can use them method of blended teaching that is amalgamation of both online and offline method of teaching then it can use an online system of education along with offline then it will be obviously better for the students to have better understanding of the subject. In addition to this, the knowledge and the understanding of the students will not be confined to only one book or several books. If the students of the secondary classes of Australia are provided an opportunity to learn the subject with reference to vast sources of the subjects through the blended method then it might work for them.
Research Aims
The aims of the researcher will be to highlight the importance of adopting the blended method of teaching economics in secondary schools of Australia so that the subject can be made more interesting before the students. Further, it also aims to establish the advantages of blended strategy of teaching for making the education scenario more illuminating especially in times of teaching intrinsic subjects like economics.
Research Objectives
The objectives of the research are:
· To discuss on the issue that whether blended method of teaching economics in secondary schools of Australia will actually work
· To discuss the pros and cons of blended method of teaching economics in secondary classrooms of Australia
· To discuss the limitation of blended method of teaching economics
· To discuss the ways by which the blended method can be properly executed to teach economics in secondary school classrooms of Australia
Significance of the research
There are some former researches about how teaching economics can be made easier because it is that subject where the students cannot write anything from their imagination. In this regard, the students are required to go through several academic journals, different books and several resources. However, the research will be very new and different from the other researches as in this research a completely new and unique method of teaching will be provided, that is a blended method of teaching economics and the ways by which this method can be popularized and made acceptable before all will be discussed in the content of the research. It is very difficult to teach economics to some students who have no interest and no inclination for the subject. For them it is expected that if blended method of teaching can be used then it can truly work for them. However if the method of blended method cannot be properly executed then it may be of no use. Thus, this research proposal will shed light on the fact that if is truly possible for the blended method to teaching model to teach economics well and augment the interest of Australia secondary schools to grow interest for the subject.
Research Rationale
At present although use of blended methods of teaching has been practiced in different parts of the world however the reality is still this method needs to be popularized. It has been seen from several statistics that many students confront immense problems in studying the subject economics, as it is one of the critical subjects. In addition to this in this subject, the students cannot produce anything in the answer script on their own. Thus, it is required for them to go through several internet sources. In this regard, the blended method of teaching is the most prominent option.
The current research on blended methods of teaching economics is an issue for the teachers of all the civilized countries around the world to focus on the method of blended teaching.
Chapter 2: Literature Review of the Research
Requirement of the subject in academic scenario
Not only nowadays the subject economics is considered as one of the most important and significant subjects because it deals with a country's economy as a whole. It helps the learner to know about what is happening in the market and the macro economy. It also helps to examine the statistics about the state of the economy and to analyze the significance. Finally, it also helps to understand the different policies that are formulated by the governments at both national and international level and finally to evaluate all the likely outcomes (Sazanova, Sharipov & Dyakonova, 2019). It is very important for the students to have deep knowledge on the subject, as it is obligatory for any citizen for a country to have good understanding on the economy of a country. Now if the students are not provided deep knowledge about the subject economics then it will be never possible for the students to gain deep knowledge about the subject. Thus as per the recommendations and instructions of the education of most of the countries it is very mandatory to provide good knowledge to the students about the subject economics and the economic plight of his or her respective country (Rath & Wohlrabe, 2016). If this trend can be provided to the students from a very early age then it will be very easy for the student to know about the subject in detail. In addition to this, it is also very important to develop the curiosity and interest about the subject among the students.
Major Challenges in teaching this subject “economics”
The major challenge that is most often faced by the teachers about teaching subjects is lack of adequate sources for the subject. It is very important to provide sources to the students about different economies of different countries (Semenov & Khaykin, 2016). However, this is never possible in the small range of the classroom. Apart from this another trouble that is present in the students is as the students are not provided with varied scope to go through different books and diversified sources then it becomes very problematic for them to augment knowledge about the subject (Yusuf, 2018). Moreover in most of the schools the scope of use of the internet is also much obscured. Hence the students have no other option to crumb and vomit in the examination. Thus in this regard the blended method of teaching can be the most potential and excellent method of teaching economics from a more elevated angle and increase the curiosity and the interest of the students about the subject (Vasiliki, Panagiota & Maria, 2016).
Brief Introduction about blended method of teaching
Blended learning is a more important aspect of teaching approach to education that amalgamates online teaching aptitudes with the traditional classroom based classrooms. It requires a physical presence of both the teacher and the students in the classroom. It mainly aims to elevate the traditional teaching system with fusion of online-based education in it. At this present era blended method or approach of teaching is one of the most used and favorite methods among the teachers (Vasiliki, Panagiota & Maria, 2016). The main fact that is extracted through this method is the students will be provided an opportunity to go through several sources of the subject. For instance, if a teacher is teaching William Shakespeare’s Macbeth in the classroom, the teacher can use the methods of blended approach and it will be better for the students to have deeper knowledge over the subject and the students will also get an opportunity to augment their knowledge through fusion of different study materials (Vasiliki, Panagiota & Maria,2016).
Advantages of Blended method of teaching for the academic subjects
If all the educational institutions can take a pledge to popularize and accept this subject in general for the welfare of the students then it will be better for them to provide the students the below mentioned benefits that are:
· It will focus on the mastery of the students as the students will be provided an opportunity to explore their inert knowledge and it will increase the motivation of the students about the subject (Huong, 2018).
· With the use of blended methods in teaching, it will also be easier for the students to take the lesson of game based learning. It is very easy to convert the most intrinsic and critical subjects even very easy if it can be made game oriented. If the students can learn the basics of economics with a gaming spirit then it becomes very easy for them to develop good understanding and amelioration of their curiosity and interest about the subject (Saltan, 2017).
· Another most significant advantage of blended methods of teaching is it helps both the students and the teacher to establish global connectivity. When the teacher will be able to teach economics in reference to the...
