My opinion of standardizing Nursing Terminology
The simplest terms are words or phrases used to describe specific things (for example, legs) or abstract things (for example, plans). Nursing terms are the main body of terms used in nursing. In North America, such an organization is the American Nurses Association (ANA), which conducts the legal standardization process through its Nursing Practice Information Infrastructure Committee. The development of SNT continued until the late 1980s and until the 1990s. Nursing is a broad field (Schwirian, 2013). Many nurses practice in hospitals, however most of are in practice-home care, office care, community care, occupational care. In addition, there are specialties in all of these fields, because it’s not easy to find a term that can meet the requirements of each of these nurse groups. As a result, different terminology that reflects different types of practices and combines different conceptual foundations has been developed. Many people believe that if nurses easily agree on the better and inclusive SNT, they will make faster progress, allowing nurses to behave better in defining nursing practice in a more uniform and understandable way. The agreement has not yet been passed (Schwirian, 2013).
