On 29 May 2020, the Prime Minister of Australia announced the new 2020-25 National Health Reform Agreement (NHRA), which was signed by all the Australian governments. It is an agreement between the Aus
tralian government and the state and territory governments where the Australian government will provide funds for the proper functioning of the public hospitals. These include the services of the emergency departments, community health settings and the hospitals. The program will run between 1 July 2020 and 30 June 2025 with the Australian government contributing total funds worth $133.6 billion (1).
a) The National Health Reform Agreement (NHRA) is a health promotion initiative of the Australian government which empowers the people through health literacy. It provides person – centric health information which enable the people to manage their own health effectively and make optimal use of the hospital services. The NHRA is a tertiary program involving the Australian government and all the state governments who work for all levels of public hospital services. The program is aimed towards the welfare of the Australians by improving the health outcomes and making it easier for the people to manage their own health. Moreover, it reduces the pressure on the hospitals and enable the state and territory governments to manage the health of the people efficiently (1).
b) The aim of the NHRA is to deliver high quality and safe care to the Australians in the right place and at the right time. It promotes prevention of the diseases and enable the people to manage their health throughout their life. Further, the program is an initiative towards improving the efficiency of the hospitals and the health systems. It provides for the financial sustainability for the health system of Australia.
