Project Overview

Project Overview:

  • Self-identify a review topic of interest, relevant to the course, that is grounded in reviews of basic or translational research involving microscale and/or nanoscale drug delivery using nanomaterials to treat disease areas or organ systems

  • Conduct a literature search utilizing a search engine like PubMed or Web of Science in order to assist with your presentation.

  • You need at least 2 articles, one review, and one original research, but more is better since it will provide you with more to present on including figures to fill your slides.

    • Articles you include in your presentationmust be published within the past 5 years(recent) and publishedwithin a journal with an impact factor of at least 7

  • Deliver a formal, individual oral presentation between 20-25 minutes long to both faculty and peers

Tips for Creating a Presentation:

What makes a good presentation?

  1. minimal text

    • this is an oral presentation, so it is not necessary, and often distracting, to include a lot of text on your slides

    • keep text to a few, brief bullet points

    • less is more

  1. mostly images

    • attractive images relevant to the content should be the main focus on each slide

      • unless you created the image yourself, make sure to include a citation under images

    • if there is a method you would like mention that does not have a diagram, you can create your own for free through the website called Biorender

3. proper citations

    • it is not necessary to include citations for bullet points on your slides, however, you should include all citations on a reference slide at the end of your presentation

    • you will need to cite images within the slides directly under the image

This week you should begin doing background research for your final PowerPoint presentation assignment. Remember, you are looking for at least one review and one research article. Please refer to the image below if you are having any difficulty differentiating between the review and research article types. Contact the TA if you have any questions.

Once you have chosen an article, you willanalyze itand find key points that stand out.

Nano-scale Drug Delivery: Organ Systems
Nano-scale Drug Delivery: Organ Systems
A Presentation

Nanotechnology is remarkable in sourcing the minute details linked to effects of drugs over organ systems.
Began as revolutionary technology at industrial level, the use of nano-scale drug delivery is crucial in clinical researches.

Introduction
Nanotechnolo
gy has been a prominent theme for many science fiction writers during the last century. However, because to recent advances in chemistry and manufacturing, we can now do things that were previously unthinkable.
2
The concept of nano-scale usage and drug delivery are interlinked concepts.
These concepts depend on injecting nano-meterials into organ systems to procure various objectives.
Overview
The topic of nanomedical medication delivery is at the forefront of the nanotechnology revolution. The concept of using minute nanomaterials (NM) as drug carriers is known as nanomedical drug delivery. These nanocarriers will subsequently be injected into the bloodstream, where medications will be delivered to targeted cells.
3
In fact, enhanced nano-scale infusion of drugs depends on creating the paths in the blood vascular system.
Nano-materials open up the gateways of drugs to reach to the source point through veins.
Overview1
Nanocarriers can target on the micro size, unlike traditional medications, which target on the large scale, leaving healthy cells undamaged. This precision will eventually result in advantages such as lower drug dosages and fewer side effects.
4
The nano-scale drug delivery system works on the micro scale, targeting the cells within their capacity to heal.
It is unlike the conventional drug delivery system where various organisms within body commute to the drugs approached through macro cells.
The Concept
Several types of appropriate nanocarriers are currently available. Nanocrystals, various forms of organic nanoplatforms (such as liposomes), and inorganic platforms, such as gold nanoparticles, are the most common.
5
Nano-scale drug delivery systems are widely used in clinical researches.
They have proven their significance in avoiding the shortfalls of the conventional drug delivery system.
The Core Strengths
Nanotechnology-based drug delivery systems can provide a wide range of benefits to the human body, as well as improve the efficacy of conventional pharmaceuticals and eliminate the drawbacks of traditional techniques. Nanocarriers, as previously stated, can target specific malignant cells while leaving healthy cells alone.
6
The nanocarriers sent through nanoscale drug delivery system work on the affected areas only.
In treatment procedures such as cancer, they only target the virus infected cells and leave the healthy cells.
The Core Strengths1
Molecules with the EPR characteristic tend to collect in certain malignant cells, leaving normal healthy cells largely alone. Indirectly, EPR is linked to lower drug dosages, reduced side effect severity, improved efficacy, and lower toxicity.
7
The merits of nanoscale drug delivery can be understood by the concept of enhanced permeability and retention effect (EPR).
When molecules are replete with EPR, they develop the property of targeting the infected cells only, leaving healthy cells alone.
The Merits
Nanocarriers also have the advantage of being easily changeable in terms of size, surface area, and usefulness when compared to traditional pharmaceuticals. This can be demonstrated in liposome-based nanocarriers. Liposomes are noted for their capacity to minimise side effects, toxicity, and medication clearance, in addition to being...
