Introduction
According to the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) records for the prevention status and the public health policies, the different types of public health concerns. The CDC highlights a detailed study on the prevalence of these ten different types of public health challenges in the different parts of the world. These health challenges include alcohol-related issues, the overdose of the prescribed drugs, tobacco use, teen pregnancy, food safety, infection associated top healthcare, injury caused due to motor vehicle, nutrition, obesity and physical activity (Becker’s Hospital Review, 2016). There are intrinsic data, which are available highlighting report status and the fact sheets of the percentage of the population suffering from these conditions in each country. The current study will explore the incidence of obesity as a health concern among the population of Australia.
The Public Health Issue
Obesity is a type of health condition, which is prevalent at a large percentage within the Australian population. It has been observed by the Australian Bureau of Statistics that around two-third of the total population constituting of 67% of the Australian adults were obese and overweight. The ratio of the incidence of obesity in the population of Australia has been observed to have increased since the year 2014-2015 when the number was recorded to be 63.4%.
Among the children and teenagers, in between the ages of 5 years and 17 years, there is a prevalence of 8.1% of the individuals, as being obese and 17% as being overweight. Due to this radical increase in the number of obese individuals in the Australian population, the Minister in the National Obesity Summit in 2018 decided to adopt strategies in developing health awareness among the population.
