1. How is poverty measured and to what extent does it exist in America?
Answer: There is a definite threshold of income that is set in
America to cover the basic need per person. People whose annual income is below the threshold are people living below the poverty line in America. The agency that is responsible and in charge of the measurement of measuring poverty in the U.S is the U.S census bureau (Institution, 2020).
The poverty rate in the U.S in in 2020 turned out to be 9.2 percent (Giannarelli, Wheaton & Acs, 2020). Now, when we say 9.2, it seems like a very small number. But we are considering 9.2 percent of the whole population of the United States of America which is actually a very large number. So, we can say that the poverty level in America does exist and it exist in a quite considerable amount.
2. List some of the problems associated with measuring poverty.
Answer: Some problems and challenges that the people, who measure poverty, face is firstly, there are many families who move out from a rural area to an urban area and they are initially poor. But with time most of them grow out rich and successful. So, a problem in calculation occurs there. Secondly, some families do not even have an income security and hence some years they earn a decent amount of money and in some years their income level goes down. Keeping a track of it...
