    Food and wine of a particular region plays an important role for promoting tourism in the region. Food and wine events have gained immense popularity as a method to promote gastronomy of a region. Moreover, these events have turned out to be a source of promoting the local produce by the local farmers, who do not have the ability to promote themselves on a larger scale. Food and wine events play an essential role in the development of gastronomic tourism in Australia. These events have been attracting a number of gastronomic tourists. The charter of the festival is to promote the gastronomical culture of the region rather than making money. The event promotes the produce, lifestyle and talent of Melbourne and Victoria and makes considerable efforts to promote Melbourne as the food and wine capital of Australia. Though the festival began with small group events, it has managed to grow into a huge event over a period of five years and now includes cooking classes and lunches in banquet style. The festival has its own board of management and a team who coordinates and manages the events at the festival.
