· A unlawful act committed by using internet and computers
· First crime was reported in 1820
· First spam email was sent in 1976
· First virus was installed in Apple computer in 1982
Cybercrime is an unlawful activity, which is committed by using internet and computers. While doing this cybercriminals use the computer as a tool and target both. The history of cybercrime is dated back to 1820 when it was reported for the first time. After that, first spammed email was sent in 1976. First virus was installed by Rick Skrenta while developing EIK corner in 1982 (Connolly and Wall, 2019).
3. Categories of Cybercrime
· When user computer is a target: Viruses, Malware, DoS Attacks, theft of sensitive information
· When computer is used as a weapon: cyber fraud, cyber stalking, cyber terrorism, Phishing Emails
Cybercrime can be divided into two categories: (i) When user computer is a target: With the help of other software and computer, user computer is attacked to steal sensitive information such as personal details, photos and password. (ii) When computer is used as a weapon: Computers are used with advanced features to commit crime such as credit card fraud, cyber terrorism, pornography and cyber stalking (Pastrana et al. 2018). Under these categories, types of cybercrime are further segregated.

· IoT hacking

Cyber theft means stealing of personal and financial information through breach of security or intercepting of data, when hackers or cybercriminals gain access to personal information and they use to commit fraud by stealing money, insurance fraud, or credit card fraud by spending money (Marcum and Higgins, 2019). IoT hacking relates to connection if internet using devices together and using that information without user’s consent. Malicious emails with attachments are send to users to gain access to their computers. These mails have attractive subjects and trick the user to click on them. Malware is intrusive software that is designed to damage and destroy computers and computer systems
