Ageing is an undeniable truth and everyone on this planet is required to undergo this phase of life. Ageing reflects all of the changes, which took place over the course of life. However, there are numerous characteristics associated with ageing such as, increased physical impairment, dependence and much more. This essay will discuss the physiology of ageing and efforts will be made to present discussion related to various aspects of ageing supported by various evidences.
Impact of Changes related to Ageing on Client Goals, Development, Design and Implementation of Care Plans
Ageing is accompanied with numerous changes and these changes vary from individual to individual. One of the common examples is that ageing is accompanied with decreased physical movement or increased impairment; thus, facilitating dependence on other individuals. As a result, care planning for such clients will revolve around the care take along with the implementation of plans. Likewise, there are numerous other lifestyle changes accompanied with ageing such as increased stress, medications, diseases, alcohol consumption or dependence and planning for care plans require consideration of all these factors.
Impact of Complex Needs and Dual Diagnosis or Co-Morbidity Issues
As presented above as well, ageing is accompanied with comorbid issues and other complex needs such as dual diagnosis. Yakovenko and Hodgins (2018) suggested that aged individuals with mental illness are usually found to be already suffering from substance abuse or drug abuse. Therefore, dual diagnosis or diagnosis of co-occurring issues become difficult especially during old age. Moreover, older individuals have decreased tolerance, increased risks of falls and injures along with increased risk of adverse interactions with medications.
