Awareness of Indigenous Australians
Indigenous Australians has experienced dispositions resulting from the differences of modern colonization. History has always been harsh to aboriginals and the Torres Strait islanders. It is worth mentioning that since 1770 to 1837 thousands of indigenous Australian men, women and children were killed who resisted the colonialism of the Western Europe. From 1893 to 1971 children's of indigenous Australian descendants were removed from their parents and were compelled to live in mass dormitories to attend them in educational institutions probing the fact that the aboriginal parents were not fit to care for their own children. It is evident to spread awareness about the indigenous Australians among the Australians.
This assignment fosters the sources which reflect the spread of the awareness about the indigenous Australians and support for the indigenous Australian children. First two resources elaborate awareness of indigenous cultures while the third resource upholds the support for the indigenous Australian children in an early childhood centre.
Resource 1: Improving School Curriculum
Inculcating history in the school curriculum will help the present generation both from indigenous and non indigenous children learn about the early inhabitants of Australia. For a long time classrooms of Australia referred that Australia new was discovered by Captain James Cook. They practically erased the perspective of the indigenous Australians who inhabited the continent for 70000 years. The use of western imperialistic approach in the school curriculum like that of Captain Cook discovered Australia must be replaced with that of the acknowledgement of the indigenous Australians. Texts taught in schools must teach about the culture, land and ancient history of Australia to the colonization of the continent. School curriculum must delete the texts that refers Europeans as superior and civilized while indigenous people as natives, dying breed savages and primitives. It is evident that education plays one of the most prominent roles to bring about the positive aspects in the society. It is this education that needs to be pursued and it must be used as a tool to end systematic racism by developing a curriculum those fosters the awareness about the indigenous Australians...
