Cyberspying as cybercrime and the future
Cyber spying, also known as cyber espionage occurs when an individual or a group of individuals indulge in the practice of obtaining information without the knowledge or permission of the information holder. It is normally committed by rivals, enemies, governments etc in order to gather information or for monetary gain. Cyber spying is a form of cybercrime in that it involves either crime against people, crime against property or crime against government (CarbonBlack, 2020; Upcounsel, 2020).
The legal definition of cyber-crime does not stop whistle-blowing and resistance. When whistle-blowing is done for the up-keep of law and order, it is not considered illegal because it brings forth truths that would otherwise remain hidden from the mass and from the law for ever. More than being illegal, it is something difficult to do because it often leads to boycott, hate and even persecution. Justice needs to be served even if it doesn’t go the way those in positions of authority want. However, when it comes to government institutions and national security, whistle-blowing can be deemed as treason. In such a case it will be considered illegal. So, the context of whistle-blowing itself has to be considered for its legality. However even with legality issues, there is an ongoing debate whether the government concealing the truth from the people is right or not (Hamsher, 2014).
