    The government of Colombia had installed a GPS tracking system on respondent Jones to track him down. According to the law, the installation had to take place within 10days of the scheduled decree. But the installation had taken place by the government officials on the 11th day in Maryland. The GPS tracked Jones for 28 days, tracking the movement of the vehicle and its rider. Jones has been suspected of hoarding drugs and that is the reason he had been tracked by the government. The GPS tracker was suppressed when the vehicle was parked in the house but it used to be active in public places.
Throughout the course, the vehicle was tracked whenever it used to be used in public places. Upon the conviction of Jones, the case took another turn when the installation of the tracker was declared illegal by the convict. It was reversed by D. C. Circuit that the installation had taken place on the delayed date of the warrant. That is why it had been argued that the installation of the tracker had been warrantless and it violated the fourth amendment of the US constitution (Slobogin, 2012). District of Colombia circuit for conviction was reversed by the United States Supreme Court appeals and the petition of the government was denied.
