2 Criminal Justice Agencies
The two criminal justice agencies which we will focus on will be the police department of Waco in Texas and the other will be the police department of Dallas also located in the city of Texas. We have chosen these two criminal justice agencies as the officers and staffs are highly trained and follows ethical principles. They are selected after series of screening, enhancement, close scrutiny and as per the set standards. Further, these two agencies are able to collect and evaluate the data of crime and crime patterns as well as trends across various jurisdictions which is essential for making decisions by the law enforcement departments at all stages. The crime data are with respect to murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault along with other criminal acts like burglary, motor vehicle theft, larceny theft and arson. Based on the reports and data published by these two agencies we will try to identify the criminal victimization as per the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS). Further, through this analysis we will be able to find if the rate of crimes has increased or reduced in these two jurisdictions (Crime in Texas, 2019).
Compare racial and ethnic arrest of the two agencies
The Waco police department consists of licensed and peace implementation officers which includes both men and women and are mostly whites. In Waco police department which is a county of Texas has 260 officers of which 76% are whites, 10% are blacks, 14% are Hispanic and 1% are Asian. The officer of Waco police department Garen Bynum stated that they have focused on finding more diverse officers for inclusion in their police force (Joel Lopez, 2020).
Dallas police Department demographics consists of both male and female in the ratio of 81% to 19%. With respect to the race and ethnicity of the Dallas Police Department the whites are 50%, African American are 26%, Hispanic is 21%, Asian and Pacific Islander are 2% while American Indian are 1% (Rhiannon Saegert & Tommy Witherspoon, 2020). The department is headed by the police chief who is also known as the city manager and is being appointed by the Dallas City Council. The ultimate goal of Dallas Police Department is to provide safety and assistance at every opportunity to the prevent, investigate and enforce various services for the benefit of the community (City of Dallas, 2016).
Difference between the two agencies in terms of racial and ethnic arrests
As per the latest statistics of August 2021 the Crime chart states that the number of murder cases in August 2020 was 3 compared to 2 in August 2021. There has been reduction in the sexual assault cases to 12 in 2021 compared to 17 cases in the same month in 2020. The cases of robbery were 4 in August 2021 compared to 17 in August 2020.
