Introduction
An organizational structure is a system, which outlines how hierarchy is being maintained within an organization or the way; the activities are directed in order to achieve the specific goals of an organization. Several processes of an organization such as coordination, task allocation, supervision and much more might be directed towards achieving organizational aims. This paper would discuss the organizational structure of a well-known international organization, which is ‘Microsoft Corporation’. Efforts would be made to present the business strategy used by Microsoft and the paper would conclude with a specific area of business to be addressed.
Nature of the Organization
Microsoft Corporation is an American multinational company headquartered in Redmond, Washington. Microsoft is known all around the globe for development, manufacturing, licensing, consumer electronics and many other services. Bill Gates along with Paul Allen founded this organization on April 4, 1975. The development of MS-DOS marked the domination of Microsoft in personal computer operating system followed by Microsoft windows.
However, in 2000 Steve Ballmer as the CEO of Microsoft Corporation, which led to acquiring devices and service strategy by the company, replaced Bill Gates. Microsoft Windows line of operating system including Microsoft office suite, Edge web browser, internet explorer and much more (Kozlovska & Vinnik, 2017). The word Microsoft is a linguistic blend of ‘microcomputer’ and ‘software’ and in 2016; it was rewarded with world’s largest software developer with respect to the revenue generated.
Further, Microsoft was also ranked as 30th in Fortune 500 rankings of largest U.S corporations. Microsoft’s growth is considered to be a result of competitive advantage accompanied by its strong position in the computing industry. Some of the strongest rivals of Microsoft include tech giants of the world such as, Google, Amazon, Cisco, Oracle and Apple. However, cloud services segment of Microsoft is one of the major key players within global market along with storage and related services.
