Lecturer's name, qualifications, background: The name of the lecturer is Michelle Gheorghiu. She is a professional engineer by trade and is specialized in mic
ro-processes. She studied as a research scholar after her university and after migrating back to Australia, she worked for a Japanese company. Later, she wanted to do something different so she worked in the healthcare sector where she delivered major projects based in the South Australian health space. Currently, she owns a small company named Aminia Housing Ltd.
Subject/Context of the talk: The subject of this talk is Leadership in Business. The subject addresses how leadership should be maintained to bring success to a business.
KEY IDEA No. 1: Leadership must include mentoring others

My reaction –agreement/disagreement : I completely agree to this idea as when leading a team it is very essential to mentor or to motivate your team mates. This in turn will definitely bring more productivity among the employees and make your company much successful. Nurturing your teammates will help the team mates to gain more skills or show how much potential they have in themselves. Ideas link to theory/study: This idea can be linked to Jane Whitney Gibson’s study- The Leader as Mentor. This study addresses that with mentoring, the merits, goals and problems are explored. Opinions of various employees have been positive about their leaders when mentoring them. It concludes that mentoring is a crucial part of leadership and gives immense benefits to the employees.
KEY IDEA No. 2: Ignoring your weaknesses for best self-reflection

My reaction –agreement/disagreement: I somehow disagree with this statement as focusing on our weaknesses is necessary for best self-reflection as this gives us a scope to accept our flaws (Hollingsworth and Clarke, 2017). It helps us in identifying them and how we can change them for our betterment. Ignoring these weaknesses will only lead to the elevation of our flaws.

Ideas link to theory/study This idea is very much similar to Enrico Schwenke’s Weaknesses and Vulnerabilities: Why They Should Not Be Ignored
This study deals with our lives being a continuous process of learning and how we can learn by rectifying our weaknesses. It believes in the quote "A good weakness is better than a bad strength”. There should always be new ways so as to help the teammates and to motivate them. It will help in bring the best out of them.
