Simulation Project- Figure 1 shows a plan view of the general arrangement of columns and beams which support the floor of one storey building. The Floor is one-way spanning slab and is used for open-plan general office use. A Service Load (for suspended ceilings, air-conditioning, lighting, pipework, cable trays, etc.) of 1.0 kN/m acts on the floor. Beams and columns are made from steel. For the initial design described in this project, wind loading can be ignored. (i) Using the initial analysis introduced in Week 6, calculate the distributed load acting on beam A (self- weight of the beam must be considered). (ii) Model the simply supported beam A in one of the commercial software (e.g. ANSYS, SAP2000, etc.) and analyse it to obtain the reaction forces, maximum deflection, and maximum bending stress. (iii) Using theoretical formulations calculate the reaction forces, maximum deflection and maximum bending stress and compare your results with the numerical model. (iv) Compare the results of the numerical model and theoretical values. Please note that this is an individual task and each student must submit his/her assignment. Assignments must be submitted through Learnline and will be checked for similarity. In your report following items should be presented. 1- All calculations and assumptions for determining the UDL on Beam A 2- Major clauses form Australian standards that you have used in determining the loads. 3- Screenshots of your model showing geometry, loading, analyses results, i.e. reactions, deflections, and stresses. 4- All theoretical calculations to solve statically determined beam A for reactions, deflection and maximum stress. Note: (i) Steel beam is a non-composite beam, i.e. only an I section steel beam must considered in modelling and calculations. There are several tutorials in YouTube for different commercial software to analyse a simply supported beam. The Assignment must be submitted by 5pm 15/10/2021. Good Luck Fig. 1 Plan view
