Executive Summary
The current study offers an in depth assessment of a tas
k that involves the formulation of an event in Sydney, which would improve its number of visitors in winter, with the sole aim of saving its hospitality sector that incurs loses in every winter due to the lower number of visitors. In the current study, followed by a brief introduction, a month long snowboarding tournament has been considered to the event. Considering the variety of needs an event requires short-term as well as long-term recommendations are made. In addition to the recommendations, the additional needs in infrastructure, services and knowledge has also been hinted at. In the following part of the study, the ways of promoting the event, measuring techniques for its success assessment a theoretical framework for bringing in more visitors have been provided in respective sequences. Lastly a conclusion is provided, which has summed the major highlights of the event and its various aspects.
Introduction
    Australia has ample seasonal variations, which makes its cities offer its visitors a variety of experiences, when perceived from the hospitality industry angle. A major contributor in the Australian economy is the hospitality and tourism industry, accounting AU$49 billion per annum, and offering employment to 580,200 people every year, hinting at the significant role the industry have in the country’s development (Australian Government, 2018). Sydney is one of Australia’s major cities and it has scenic spots that attract tourists from national and international parts of the globe, based on which a large number of hotels, restaurants, entertainment organisations have set up their business.
However, due to the lower number of tourists and visitors coming to Sydney in winter lead to losses in hospitality industry, despite the city’s offering of beautiful sceneries all around, hinting at the lack of attainable events in winter for travellers, tourists and visitors. In the current study, a new approach, which is aimed at increasing the number of visitors to the city in winter has been suggested along with an in depth assessment, which would consequently help the industry to cover its recurring loses in winter every year.
Findings
Description of the Opted Event in Sydney
    Considering the available as well as the unavailable events conducted in Sydney during winter, the organising of a snowboarding competition could help boast the number of visitors for a considerable duration. Considering the fact those extreme outdoor sports, such as snowboarding requires open space and sharp slopes the Woronora Plateau and nearby region of the Blue Mountain will be selected as the venue for hosting the events. Leading free-style snowboarders will take part in the event from within and outside Australia. The event will be a month long tournament, which will cater the interest of extreme sport enthusiasts in Australia, and outside the country. There will be an opening and a closing ceremony in which popular Australian pop stars will perform. After every day of the event, press conferences will be held within different venues in Sydney.
    Considering the popularity of events such as snowboarding, the sponsors will be attracted easily, helping in reducing the stress of funding such a huge event. In addition, the advertisements and banners will lead the tourist to different hotels and restaurants in Sydney, which will benefit the hospitality industry consistently. The travel agencies would also be able to give the tourists packages during the days on which there will be no events, to make their staying experience better.
The event will be government approved and the Australian tourism would be promoted during the event. The budget for the event will be AU$ 10, 00,000 and the regular qualifiers will start from 12 AM onwards and would continue up to 4PM. On each weekend, there will be a day off for the athletes to take rest. The event venues will be constructed temporarily and the qualified athletes will be given free hospitality services and will be funded by the tournament organisers.
