Summary of The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness
Michael Alexander’s The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness reflects the conversation about racial discrimination by analyzing the past events in the American history. The high incarceration rate in US is not accidental and this it has become a skillful system, which perpetuates racial stratification with the exclusion of black and extending its consequences (Tucker, 2012).
In the beginning, the history of state affairs highlights advancement and oppression of blacks. It shows how some freedom of blacks threatened the whites and ultimately stops blacks from achieving equality with them. Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan used race as the subtext of their politicking and encouraged disproportionate focus on blacks. Another argument given by the author was on the war of drugs.

It advocates that not only the explicit racial views are responsible but also the system is also equally neutral towards trapping of blacks in mass incarceration. It is one of the finest works of the author and crucial for those who are studying criminal justice system as the conveyed message catch our nerves and disturb them to the core.
