Canada and the United States of America have many similarities in terms of political
systems and economic trade. However, they also have many differences that an American
citizens relocating to Canada should consider including; health systems, education, and language.
These factors may cause challenges, particularly to American citizens who have never lived
outside the USA. Additionally, the differences between the two countries possess major
challenges to the human resource managers of American companies relocating their employees
to Canada. Therefore, human resource managers of such companies should focus on differences
etween the two countries on matters including; federal and labor laws, employees health
enefits, employee compensation and pension plans, employment laws, and provincial health
enefits. This will prevent the company and its employees from serious fines for not abiding by
the different local/ municipal/ federal Canadian employment and labor laws (Ancham Canada,
2006).
Canadian employment laws are different from the USA in terms of payment and working
hours. Canadian employment laws differ from one province and te
itory to another. However,
they are all guided by the employment standards act, which set out information defined in the
Canadian Labour Code. The Employment Standard Act (ESA) encompasses legislations such as
pay equity (workers performing similar task should be paid equally), and the human rights act.
The provincial human rights commissions in different provinces and te
itories, deals with issues
concerning various labor acts. The payment of wages is also a requirement under the ESA
(Williams, Champion, & Hall, 2012).
