Task: The task is to write an essay that critically evaluates the collaborative grant submission (Assessment Task 2) in order to demonstrate an understanding of communication practices from a scholarly viewpoint. Critical evaluation means ‘standing back’ to judge the strengths and weaknesses of the proposal, which could include problems encountered in the design process, issues in the framing of social difference in the project, or concerns around the kinds of community consultation available to support the project. The individual commentary therefore requires an integration of academic concepts and arguments from Communicating Difference to assess critically frameworks for difference used within the grant proposal. The commentary also needs to include specific examples from the submission and to develop a scholarly argument that links to the grant project chosen. Assessment criteria: - Critical engagement on strengths and weaknesses of the grant proposal, including reflection on the beliefs, values and ethics embedded in the project (35%) - Demonstrated understanding of scholarly ideas and concepts suitable to the project proposed, using five readings from the subject (40%) - Clarity and coherence of written expression (20%) - Use of academic referencing (5%).
