This assignment takes place in three parts, as follows:


1. Watch the following video of infants, toddlers and young children
at play
in an Australian ECE context*using your mouse to navigate your way around the centre. Undertake a series of observations across all age groups (including under two year-olds) using a range ofobservation techniques (interval recording, duration recording, time sample, running record, narrative). You will be supported to do this in week 2 of the course.

While not set in Australia, you will see two year-olds playing with their older peers in a variety of ways, and you are welcome to use this footage as a source for your observations also.


2. Select
THREE
(total of 1500 words) of these observations drawn from a range of different techniques - at least one must include children under the age of two years. Accurately analyse each against identified aspects of learning through play. These observations and their targetted analysis should be appended to your assignment (and labelled accordingly).


3. Then,
in no more than 1500 words
summarise the learning you have identified as a result of yourcombined analysis of these observationsin relation to its significance to key principles of Belonging as learning - with accurate links to VEYLDF, consideration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ways of belonging, and supported by at least three peer-reviewed articles to support your claims.

Sitting on the chair the kid is making some craft. 'A' she seems quite attentive and concentrated throughout the video. She took some tools from the table and again started doing her work. 'A' turns her head to the left and right and again concentrated on her work. Her body language and expressions tell about her confidence and attentive attitude. The educator was giving instructions to other kids about the easiest process of making the paper craft. A was then focused on her work and also similar attentive to observe other kids too. In the middle of the work, she was also taking the educator's suggestions. Listening to the educator carefully 'A' modified her craft also and improved the work again. 'A' was quite quick in doing her activity. After making the craft she also shows it to the kid sitting next to her. It has also been observed that 'A' was also helped other kids in doing their job well. An expression of happiness can be seen 'A's face after finished her job well. 'A' took a paper plate and trying to play with the other kid. It has also been seen that 'A' was talking to another kid regarding the camera after finishing her work. After that, she was covering her face with a paper plate. While other kids were busy interacting with each other, A was busy on her own. She was trying to make something with stuff in her hand. It has also been seen in the 16:10, 'A' was asking help from the educator and the educator was also helping her eagerly. In 16:45 it is seen that 'A' is stretching her hands and moving her body part while interacting with the educator. The educator is also checking her craft and giving her suitable suggestions. And throughout the conversion process, 'A' was very serious and attentive.
Duration of context:
Solidarity play: it is termed when the children generally play on their own.
Associative play: when the children start communicating and engaging with each other.
Onlooker play: the children often observe other kids to play.
Parallel play: without having any interaction with each other when the children play their own but notice each other at the same time.
Co-operative play: a mutual cooperative attitude can be seen among the children. In this case, they generally share their toys and exchange ideas.
Adult engagement: in this case the educators also play an important role by engaging themselves in the playing activity.
Analysis:
Based on the process of observation a series of analytical judgments have been developed. In this video most of the time it can be seen that all the children are engaging in performing some activity. Both the types of co-operative and associative play can be seen in this video. The interaction of the educator is also remarkable here. Hence the adult engagement can also be seen here. In the case of the child ‘A’, it has been observed that she is quite serious and attentive in her work. Considering every minor fact the educators are also approaching all the children according to their needs. The helping attitude of educators is also indicating effective bonding with the children. They are improving the level of emotional engagement with the children and making them more social and co-operative. In this video at a particular level of the parallel play is also can be seen. Many times it has also been observed that ‘A’ is adopting the onlooker play process by her attitude. The behavior of the other kids also bearing the symbol of the solidarity play in most of the cases. Hence it can be seen that all the children are sharing different types of attitudes in the case of performing their activity.

Details
The child ‘B’ was running in the place along with other kids. While other children cross the passage ‘B’ started playing with the tricycle. At 6:49, suddenly ‘B’ laid on the floor and trying to show his tiredness. The other kid comes to him and also sat beside. More than a while he was lying down the ground and moving his body parts with a mild sound. It was seen that he was in a plying mood. He was holding the pillars and again moving his legs. The other kids were peeping. At 8:00, another two children came to him and one of them started pulling his hand. At 8:47, the mentor came to him along with other children and started talking to him. Then the other kids have also become attentive and playful with the mentor. At 10:15, they started lying down the floor and trying to communicate with their mentor effectively.
Analysis
In this video, an outdoor scenario of the play space has been shown. The running and overall movement of the children are being focused here in this video. Interaction of the children with the mentor has also demonstrated the degree of engagement of the children in this case.
