Use the textbook, notes, and what you’ve learned thus far in this course to answer the following questions. Outside sources are not necessary!
Part I:Essay Questions, pick 3 of the following questions(one full single-spaced page each), the response must make and support a clear argument. Your responses must be detailed and cite the text when appropriate. Specific examples and explanations are required. Responses that are vague will earn minimal credit; responses less than one page will earn half credit at most.1. Recall the major media professions discussed in Chapter 2. Using your MSWP score (Chapter 1), describe how your score fits with career paths you might be considering. Discuss the areas of your writing that make you well suited for this type of work as well as those that you most want to improve in order to meet your career goals.2. What does it mean to write with sensitivity as a media professional? Describe some of the areas in which you need to be especially careful.3. What differences do you see between the news presented on your hometown TV stations and the news presented on CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC? List at least three differences in the types of stories that are covered, the types of story formats used, and the length of story coverage between local and cable news.4. What is your favorite type of social media personality? How do you recognize it when you read tweets and Facebook updates? What language usage makes this social media personality work effectively for you?5. We live in an era where fake news and accusations of fake news dominate the headlines. What responsibilities of media writing professionals does writing fake news violate? Sharing fake news? What can honest news producers due to counteract accusations of fake news?
Part II:Applied learning. Pick one (length determined by prompt).1. Review the six different types of short-form problem-solution copywriting found on pages 323-324. Imagine you are writing to recruit members for a community volunteer group or church to which you belong. Write three tweets following each of the six formulas (so, 18 total) that might convince potential members to attend an informational meeting for the group.2. Locate a piece of writing (if longer than one page, you may excerpt 3 paragraphs) that is written in an overly complicated fashion, using long sentences, excessive punctuation, or big words. Rewrite the piece using the principles of electronic news writing you’ve learned so far, with the goal of making the piece easier for the reader to understand. Include both the original and the rewrite, as well as a one paragraph explanation of the differences.
