In this paper Brown and Ogden has focused on interpreting and representing the theories which
relate to the influence of American parents on their children. The main emphasis of this paper is
on the parental influence on the children’s behavior and resulting eating habits. The researchers
conclude the study by commenting that a significant part is played by the parental role model in
the realm of child’s health. They concluded that a healthy role model may act like a more
positive method in comparison to contemporary dietary control regimes to improve the diet
pattern of a child.
The idea generated through the paper can be justified scientifically. There is indeed a relation
between the food habit of parents and that of the children. Children often tend to copy the
unhealthy food habits of their parents which ultimately cause obesity in them. Moreover, parents
who exercise high control over their children’s diets can find their children consuming more
unhealthy diets. So, it should be a balanced approach on the part of the parents to influence
positively their children’s eating habits by maintaining a positive eating habit and by exerting a
moderate control over their children’s diet.

Through their paper Deckelbaum and Williams has revealed the causes and implications of child
obesity. They emphasize on the customs and norms of the Western World including North
America which are directly related to the menace of childhood obesity. They also have revealed
that the adoption of such Western behavioral and dietary lifestyles worldwide has aided the fast
spread of the disease across the globe. The paper also reveals the fact that childhood obesity
gives rise to a higher degree of possibility regarding adulthood obesity. The relation between
childhood obesity, adulthood obesity and eventual death due to obesity...
