Submission Date: To be submitted in week 11 Assessment Task: The assessment is about a design of a system using OOP. Total Mark: 20 Marks Weighting: 20% Students are advised that submission of an Assessment Task past the due date without a formally signed approved Assignment Extension Form (Kent Website MyKent Student Link> FORM – Assignment Extension Application Form – Student Login Required) or previously approved application for other extenuating circumstances impacting course of study, incurs a 5% penalty per calendar day, calculated by deduction from the total mark. For example. An Assessment Task marked out of 40 will incur a 2 mark penalty for each calendar day. The report should follow the following structure using the actual case study that will be available on Moodle (in assessment section) by week 8. 1. Title Page 2. Executive Summary 3. Introduction 4. Background 5. Case Study and the Design 5.1 Variables, Ranges and Keys 5.2 Operations and the Justification 5.3 Algorithms and the Justification 5.4 Modifications 6. Conclusion 7. References CASE STUDY: This assessment is an individual report. You are required to design a library system for Kent Institute. Assume that there are: i. two campuses – Sydney and Melbourne ii. 200 VET level students iii. 300 Higher Education students iv. 30 professional staff and 40 academic staff You need to decide how many books, journals, DVDs or other media the library holds. Then specify the range of operations which will be needed for the library system. For each of these operations, discuss the most suitable sorting or searching method and why your chosen algorithm for each operation is the most appropriate. A nearby University wants to use your system. They have: • One campus • 25000 undergraduate students • 10000 postgraduate students • 5000 research students • 2000 professional staff • 4000 academic staff What changes, if any, would you make to your system for the University to be able to use it effectively and efficiently? TASKS TO BE COMPLETED Given the above information: a) Decide the appropriate variables, keys and ranges to be used in the system. Justify. b) The operations that library system should support. c) Algorithms for the operations that your system should support. Also, justify the choice of algorithms. d) Changes for the larger university, if any, to be made in the original system. Justify. ASSESSMENT SUBMISSION: The assignment must be submitted online in Moodle. All materials MUST be submitted electronically in Microsoft Word format. Other formats (e.g., pdf or MAC file) may not be readable by markers. Please be aware that any assessments submitted in other formats will be considered LATE and will lose marks until it is presented in MS Word. No paper based or hardcopy submission will be accepted. 1. A barcode library system for Kent Institute
2.Summary
In any education institute there is one of the essential places is known as the library. As per the upgrading into the technology all places are trying to introduce new automatic system. In this article, author introduced the new techniques which gives fastest results in fraction of seconds. Here, barcode techniques introduced by author for better results. As per the case
study, here two campuses are mentioned and in future one more university will join with those campuses. There are local and foreign students take benefits of library. Using barcode system mainly improvement in circulation process as compare to previous catalogue techniques used by the institute. The centre encourages wholly pupils to link their library system that delivers a wide range of journals, articles, files and digital periodicals. In this study, author presented the barcode system for the library so it is very comfortable, error less system. This study has introduced a new algorithm that will absolutely be beneficial for individuals students who are unable to link or contact the library.
3. Introduction
Due to tremendous growth in modern techniques library system are facing lots of changes and issues also. Every institute provides related reading materials like newspaper, references, articles, thesis, journals, magazines, and social related media. The rapid growth of techniques computerization, automation of libraries with demand of improvement in facilities those are provided by new techniques. Materials of library also changed form keeping records in catalogues to digitization. There is main role of barcoding system is circulation process which helps in automation of library system.
In this traditional system required to keep a regular check on issued and returned books and calculate a fine. Using barcode system, it increases the finding speed of any kind of book and accuracy of operation. This action, if done in person, can be tedious and can lead to mistakes. These errors are avoided by allowing the gadget to keep track of the information and the date of the problem, the last date to restore the book, or perhaps the incredible data for this reason there may be a need to save the guide song for these facts. This approach allows the information has to be collected very fast and accurate manner.
4. Background
The Kent Institute was founded in 1989, and is based in Sydney, Australia. The centre offers a wide range of government-accredited courses for both types of students at home and abroad. A new state-owned campus was established in 2009 in Melbourne.
The catalogue system was used in the Kent institute to store the reading material record and its management. The library has used the Dewey Sorting system to edit reference books, periodicals, and other media like video, audio. Thus, the user can search the catalogue with the author's name, title, book title and other keywords. It is used to complement the library as a computer program where library staff can add new books, videos, and page resources. The Student Books and Services module is also involved in the student tracking system using the library and detailed descriptions of books in the library. In previous method of the Kent institute was storing all kind of books in Dewey classification system. In addition to that system barcode techniques will be introduced. Using these techniques will definitely increase the transaction part of library like issuing, borrowing books, workload of the administrator staff and services provided by the library system. The use of new techniques institute can be handling any range of data within time constraint. So, in future institute can upgraded from medium scale to large scale. In previous method, user and admin staff were well trained for computerization but here more training has to be given to every user of the system of barcode.
5. Case Study and the Design
As per the given study, institute introduced two different campuses are located in different locations with different count of students those are learning in the institute. Two campuses are initially known as with new initial like Sydney (S) and Melbourne (M). If we consider there are numerous reading material is available. According to the available data there are total...
