The clinical project provides students with the opportunity to explore a problem or issue that is related to one of the following nursing competencies: patient-centered care, teamwork/collaboration, evidence-based practice, quality improvement, safety or informatics.THE PROBLEM: Lack of nursing support staff such as patient care assistants in the unit to support nurses in patient care.
Objectives
At the completion of this capstone project, the student will:
 Collaborate with clinical partners to identify a practice problem or issue relevant to the nursing profession.
 Integrate Lewin’s Change Theory in human systems when identifying the practice problem or issue.
 Propose an innovative solution or change to a system-related patient care problem identified on the unit where the student is practicing.
 Analyze the outcomes of nursing interventions using research-based evidence and data.
 Formulate evidence-based conclusions and recommendations related to the problem identified.
 Disseminate recommendations to nursing staff, peers, and interdisciplinary health care team.

REQUIREMENTS1. Identify a practice/problem/policy on your assigned unit. Be specific as to how this affects the unit you are working on. Discuss with your

professor and prepare a draft on your proposed change by Module 5.
2. Find evidence to support this practice/policy change. You may use research articles, meta-analysis, and integrative reviews from peer-
reviewed journals.
o Summarize the evidence from at least five professional sources. These sources should be organized in a summary table. An

example of this is located on page 165 of Grove, S. & Gray, J. (2015); Understanding Nursing Research. (7th ed.). Elsevier; St. Louis.
o You must create an appendix in your paper that includes: any surveys, the summary table of sources, and any additional

resources such as visual aids or tools created for this project.
3. Evaluate the evidence. Is the evidence strong enough to change practice/policy or support a current practice/policy?
o Does the evidence support the practice/policy?
4. Make recommendations based on the evidence. How could you apply your recommendations on your unit?

CLINICAL PROJECT PROBLEM
Abstract
Caregivers stated that their roles as caregivers provided them with a sense of fulfilment, but that they also endured a significant deal of mental stress. Caregivers of cardiac patients regularly expressed anxiety about not knowing what to anticipate and dread of the unknown. Physical difficulties such as exhaustion, discomfort, and lack of sleep, as well as psychosocial ones such as depression, were indicated by the cardiac patients in our study as key obstacles after discharge, possibly compromising their l
ong-term recovery. So, these reasons contribute to staff shortages in nursing care unit which has not yet been addressed and even if they have been addressed no permanent solution has been brought to the forefront. In this assignment we will be providing evidence on such scenarios and also useful recommendations that will help the cardiac clinical nursing unit in the near future during staff shortage.

Introduction
This paper specifically focuses on the problem that exists in a cardiac clinical care unit. As in the specialized medical units also there are several problems which are sometimes ignored and are reflected sometimes due to the extensive implications. In this paper the main problem that is observed in the cardiac clinical unit is the support staffing shortages and its impact on the nursing care. The paper would persistently focus on why this problem is considered as one of the prime problems in the cardiac clinical unit and what impacts it have generally on the nursing care. Moreover, in this article the most prominent and favorable solution to the problem would also be discussed by adopting which the problem could be minimized to an extent. Several articles would be used in this context to support the fact that this problem actually impacts a lot in the context of clinical care units.
Problem Identification
The main problem that relies in the cardiac clinical care unit is the shortages of supporting staff. The supporting staff in this context points out towards the patient care assistants and the certified nursing assistants and many more. The problem is considered bigger and obvious as in the hospitals and the care units the support staffs plays a very important role as they not only take the care of the patients but also assists the doctors and the surgeons in their works preferably. The shortage problem is considered bigger as it is impacting the overall process.
The problem is subsequently affecting the nursing care as in the nursing care the support staffs plays a very important role whether it is in the context of providing extensive care to the patients or taking care of them or helping them to work. The shortage of the support staffs increases the workload on the other subsequent persons handling the duties and as a matter of fact it makes the situation more difficult and viable for the others. Another impact of the staff shortage on the nursing care is the nursing care fails to provide the required amount of care and attention to the patients and as a matter of fact it abrupt the overall process of the care units and the centers.
Impact of Staff Shortage
The support staff shortage affects and impacts the nursing care by making them conduct all the work by themselves whether it is the maintaining of the data, taking care of the patients, handling the queries of the patients as well as taking care of their proper medication. This problem subsequently sheds high impact on the nursing care in the way they tackle problems as well as the way that handles the work.
According to an Institute of Medicine research, nurses are the biggest group of health care workers providing direct patient care in hospitals, and the quality of treatment for hospital patients is significantly connected to nursing staff performance. In hospitals, nurses are the backbone of providing high-quality patient care. Improvements in the organisation of work and use of information technology (IT), physical architecture and allocation of space, and hospital leadership and culture are all needed to recruit high-quality personnel, enable them to do their best job, and retain them as long-term workers (Health Affairs, 2021).
Integrating the Lewin’s change theory in the prospects it could be considered that the problem would be identified and resolved in the three stages that accounts unfreeze, change and freeze. This states that in forming an action that would help in tackling the shortage of support staffs all this point would be considered very impactful.
Evidences to Support the Practice
The practice that needs to be followed here is to combat and tackle the shortages of the supporting staffs the care units need to focus on the requirement of the staffs as well as the number of patients. As the care unit need to hire the adequate staffing as per the need and also match up the required ratio for the patient and the support staff so that a proper balance could be created. Along with it the practices adopted by the care unit should also accumulate the betterment of the supporting staff and their growth as well. The evidences extensively supported the overall process and practices that would help in decreasing the shortage of the supporting staff.
Moving on towards the first evidence that is taken into consideration it focuses on the topic the impact that the nursing care have on the patient outcomes. The author Alejandra et al., in her report mentioned that the inadequate quality of the nursing care has harsh and subsequent impact on the patient outcomes. Ion the report it is widely focused that the nursing care has a very important and vital role in the hospitals and the care units as the care provided by the nurses and the supporting staffs is directly related to the patient...
