Evaluating Best Practices in the Value of Introducing a PMBoK based Approach to Management in the Context of Construction Projects in Australia
    1. Research gap and rationale for undertaking the proposed research
Project management can be noted to have evolved in the course of time to that if present day process that is complex and sophisticated, therein becomin
g a principal approach to dealing with the changes in current day dynamic and modern-day organizations. As the projects continue to develop as well as there is levels of increased knowledge being gained with respect to this domain, standardization in a formal manner have taken place. Companies as well as various bodies / associations of project management all across the globe have started for developing as well as following these standards for the purposes of optimizing the activities of project management. In this context, best practice represents processes / methods / techniques that are believed in being highly effective as well as efficient to achieve the goal as compared to any of the processes, methods and techniques, while they get applied for the specific circumstances or conditions. Best practice shall be on the basis of experience as well as shall get used for describing the process to develop and to follow the standard way for doing things. In the realm of project management, best practices shall represent a generic term which can include international standards and guidelines. Both these guidelines and standards are seeking to enhance project management. At a practical level, most of the project managers shall not usually make any of the differences in-between these two concepts, and the same forms the basis for undertaking this study as these methods could contribute to the achievement of goals while dealing projects in the form of best practices.
As projects are in general perceived in being unique, the same cannot be seen in leading to same specific or single methods / processes that shall lead to success for all of the projects. Best practices within the context of project management shall contribute towards achievement of the objectives / goals, and yet project managers shall be required in determining which of the methods of project management could in general be applied as well as which of these shall be suitable for specific situations. In addition, project managers shall be required in being able to suitably employ the relevant international standard for their relevant cultural differences. Project Management Body of Knowledge (“PMBOK”) represents formal collection which comprises knowledge areas and processes generally accepted to be best practice in the domain of project management. PMBOK guides has in addition been recognized as standard internationally which offers fundamentals pertaining to project management in the manner they get applied for wide ranging set of projects.
In this context, there is significant gap in literature specific to construction projects in Australia with respect to value imparted by introducing PMBoK as a best practice at the management level. Hence, this study shall design, plan and undertake a research on evaluating best practices in the value of introducing a PMBoK based approach to management in the context of construction projects in Australia.
    2. Literature review of ten (10) scholarly journal articles
a) Literature review
Sepasgozar et al. (2019) states that delay represents one amongst the key challenges in construction projects, as well as there are numerous other issues for being overcoming to attain close to nil delay across any construction project. At an overall level, the authors find four factors that are overlooked which includes analysis of faulty data, unmatched structure concerning research questionnaires in terms of newer knowledge / standards in the form of PMBOK, other impacts from digital technologies, as well as job-site technologies that are ignored. Further additionally, this study presents DEC model with respect to future studies, inclusive of the key factors. The said factors include resources in the form of project budgets, materials, labour, digital tool and equipment, stakeholders performances like consultant / designer, owner / client, vendor / supplier and contractors, project context, as well as external factors in the form of site location, ground condition, natural disaster and regulation, that shall in a significant manner impact prevention of delays as well as need to be considered in a concurrent manner with respect to investigations over future delay, as they shall be needed to design effective forms of mitigation strategy while these points of proof shall get identified. Gurmu et al. (2016) undertook a research which investigated management practices which hold potentials for enhancing productivity with respect to building projects in the form of focusing over construction methods. The study reveals in that the higher levels in implementation concerning best practices shall be affiliated to lower levels in project delays. The employment of the best practices in addition varied as per the costs of project. There are been none of the discernible differences in-between the various best practices. Gurmu et al. (2016) find that these need to be implemented in a joint manner for improving productivity with respect to building projects. Ononuju et al. (2019) in their study illustrates that there are in general lower levels in adoption / application concerning...
