1. Tittle of this paper is Summative Assessment: Power, Persuasion, Obedience, Conformity, and Social Roles 2. Top of Form This week you read about several experimental and historical examples of when people were observed acting against their own will or conscience, given the right set of circumstances. There are also plenty of historical examples of those in power who took advantage of individuals’ obedience and conformity to social pressures or the pressures of authority. Select 1 of the social experiments Milgram and identify a current event or situation that similarly illustrates obedience and conformity. Like the social experiments you studied, the event you choose should also raise questions of ethics. Write a 1,150- word paper that includes the following: · Compare and contrast the experiment you selected with the contemporary situation. · Identify the social roles of participants and what behaviors reflect those roles.  · Examine the specific behaviors of the participants. · Discuss the internal and external consequences of the participants’ behaviors, for example, shunning, passivity, degradation, and insolence. · Explain how social roles in the contemporary situation resulted in the outcome. · Describe a realistic alternative scenario that could have resulted in a different, more ethical outcome for this situation. Relate this alternative scenario to a concept in social psychology. Include a minimum of 3 sources. Cite any sources to support your assignment. Format your sources according to APA guidelines. Summative Assessment:
Power, Persuasion, Obedience, Conformity, and Social Roles
Introduction
Social experimentation In contrast to the Standford experiment conducted at the s
ame time, which demonstrates obedience and conformity, Milgram has been picked for this essay. The social roles and behaviors of the players have been covered in this essay. The effects of those behaviors both inside and externally will also be covered. Last but not least, a plausible alternative scenario that would have produced a different, more moral conclusion to this circumstance. Incorporate a social psychology principle into this alternate scenario.
Compare and contrast
One of the most well-known and frightening sets of social psychology studies is that done by Milgram on the issue of loyalty to authority as mentioned by the authers (Perry, Brannigan, Wanner, & Stam, (2020). The finding that the majority of individuals would heed the advice to give another human being an electric shock of 450 V when instructed shocked not just the scientific community.
When asked to anticipate a Milgram experiment participant's action, people tend to focus on how terrible and immoral a person would have to be to give another person an electric shock that may terminate his or her life rather than on the circumstances that would lead a normal person to act in such a way. This result is a prime illustration of a fundamental attribution mistake that occurs when an individual's dispositional features are overestimated while the impact of the environment they are functioning in is overlooked.
When it comes to traits connected to morality, the "better than average" effect is very potent (Perry et al. 2020). People should consider that they have superior qualities that enable them to resist the experimenter's pressure if we assume that they believe dispositive attributes are what primarily determines the conduct of participants in Milgram's research. Thus, we proposed the theory that certain participants in the Milgram experiment would leave the trial earlier than the typical participant.
Both the general public and the psychological profession are fairly familiar with the Milgram experiments. Whether those individuals will continue to believe that they would perform better than the typical person and leave the experiment more quickly appears to be an intriguing subject. We predict that individuals who are aware of the outcomes of the Milgram research will alter their assessments of probable...
