Two Modes of Perception and Knowledge in John's Gospel; Oral Versus Book Culture

Part 1:Students will perform the following assignment:

Read John's Gospel
(after reading my Module 8 Lecture)with an eye for identifying two different actions of perception as they are represented in John’s Gospel:
1. Seeing, or visual perception; and
2. Hearing, or auditory perception.
Both actions of perception in John’s Gospel are actions that end in
knowledge and/ or understanding. For this assignment,
locate 1form of visual perception and 1form auditory perception in John’s Gospel; and then tell me what kinds of knowledge do these 2 different actions of perception which you have identified (and which you will cite) produce. (appx250 words).

Part 2:Students will perform the following assignment:

In light of my remarks on the advantages of "oral cultures" at the end of my Module 8 Lecture, (1) listen to a few minutes of an audio book of your choice, and (2) then read a different passage from that same book; and then (3) personally reflect on the two different experiences: reading versus listening. What TO YOU was the difference between the two experiences taking in the book.I just want you to reflect on your personal experiences of the differences between taking in the book one way (by listening) and taking in the book another way (by reading). (Is it easier, for example, to remember the contents or meanings in one form of taking in the book over another form of taking in the book?) Please name the book you chose .(appx250 words).

We must all respond to the light He carries. John's vision of the Son of Man is described in the Book of Revelation John, sees a person he says is "like the Son of Man" (verse 13). Thus sense perception and testimony are to be interpreted in relation to each other and that John’s emphasis on these twin Themes is rooted in the Hebrew Scriptures’ .
2 .AUDITORY PERCEPTION
John wrote his gospel to convince people that Jesus is the Messiah, but his gospel also strengthens the faith of those who already know that Jesus is the Messiah.
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only...
