Then, choose a functional group "Hydroxyl group". Provide a review of the functional group that includes a description of its structure and at least two physical or chemical properties that are characteristic of compounds with this functional group. Next, summarize the IUPAC rules for naming compounds with only this functional group and with no substituents (i.e. keep it simple). Consult your textbook for IUPAC rules or other reputable source (e.g,https://www.acdlabs.com/iupac/nomenclature/). Finally, find a product in your home that has an ingredient list and contains a compound with your chosen functional group (e.g., shampoo, a food, moisturizer, pharmaceutical, etc). Read the ingredient list and compare the names given to the IUPAC rules for naming your functional group. List the name of at least one ingredient that contains your chosen functional group. Do some research and summarize the purpose of that ingredient in the product you chose. Finally, draw the structure of the ingredient you chose on a piece of paper and circle your chosen functional group. Scan this drawing and upload as a file to this discussion area. (If you cannot find a suitable product with an ingredient list in your home, you may search online for an interesting household item that contains an ingredient with your chosen functional group.)

Hydroxyl Group:
This is the functional group which attaches to some molecules that contain an ox
ygen and hydrogen atom bonded together through a covalent bond. Hydroxyl group or hydroxy is represented by the formula “- OH”. In organic chemistry both alcohols and the carboxylic acids contain the hydroxyl group.
Physical and Chemical properties:
The compounds of this function groups are soluble in water and though they have –OH in them still they are not alkalis and are neutral in nature. The hydroxyls can accept and donate a proton. These...
