Costume Designs:Choose a song from the musical you watched to write your review. Print the lyrics and analyze the piece. Break down the meaning, what is its purpose in the show, how does it forward the story, share emotion, could it stand alone as a monologue…? Keeping those details in mind, how would you design the costume of one of the characters performing the song?

What colors match the tone, what style is right for the time period, hair, shoes, accessories…If the character is moving or dancing how will the costume help them or prevent them from moving fluidly. Can they breathe well to support the song? How will the lighting effect the color/texture? All these considerations and more go into a costume design. You may free draw, use magazine cut outs or create your design using the computer. Design templates are available on BB as well. Explain your choices in the body of the post. Once completed take apicand post to DB 7.

The scene I was working in the Richard II is where King Richard II hand over the crown to Henry Bolingbroke. The characters in the scene involved will be mainly about Richard and Henry Bolingbroke. It will be a modern version of a Burma where corrupted dictator hand over the power to people’s favorite president. As for costume, King Richard will be typical Green Military Uniform. The costume for Henry Bolingbroke will be a classic Burmese cloth; a traditional longyi and a shirt. Longyi a Burmese traditional cloth. Longyi will be red. Red because of a power he is getting hand over and it is also the color of his political party so it will go hand in hand. Here is a classic picture of a Burmese president wearing the traditional clothes and shaking hand with military’s personals President U Win Myint with Burmese traditional clothes on the left The wall and curtain will be blue because blue represent the color of the sky thus symbolizing new world is coming since change of powers. There will be a stage for people to see the transfer of power clearly. Not only that, under the stage, there will be a lot of people symbolizing thousand of people in real life under the stage. When the transfer of power complete, I would add a new scene where people are celebrating with foods and drinks and music because of their president getting the power rather than dictators. Week 7: Phase 2 Costume Design Week 7: Phase 2 Costume Design Musical: Be More Chill Song: I love Play Rehearsal Lyrics: https://youtu.be/qUcP1hht-fw This song is sung by the Main female lead, love interest of the main protagonist, Christine. In this song she sings on her love for theatre and plays. She reveals her feelings on important things such as gun control and spring, which are two separate things but can be a result of her ADD. With the overall meaning that in rehearsal life is easy, because you follow a script, in comparison to real life where life is so mysterious and unpredictable. This song has many ironic lines that come into play in the musical, such as how Christine feels like she gets to be the center of attention only in plays, when in fact she is a big center of attention. These days vests have become a trend and are used by themselves or over a sweatshirt or as seen in the pic, over a button up shirt. A long flowy skirt would allow Christine to be able to move properly when dancing. The shoes in the picture would also allow her to be comfortable, either sneakers or flats would compliment her outfit. Christine’s overall aesthetic is a soft modern aesthetic. The trendy styles of today with a mix of cottagecore and an indie vibe. The time period is modern time, these recent years from 2019- present. These styles of vests and long skirts are in style with the young teenagers these days. I wanted to give Christine a simple outfit instead an over the top outfit because she is a quirky person, in the play her outfit colors were very randomized in my opinion, and gave her a childish vibe. The outfit however is the total opposite I think I wanted to give her this outfit because even though she was the main protagonist, in a high school life, she wouldn’t be considered the popular type. Its also a bit of a retro vibe. Giving her accessories such as headbands and clips that were popular in the 80’s.
