2. Literature Review
2.1 Hotel Industry of Australia
Hotel industry includes wide range of hotels ranges from one star to seven stars. This industry is responsible for generation of large amount of profits and support to the economy of the country. Australian hotel business is mainly dependent on the tourism industry as they have high influence on each other. Australia has large number of spots, which offer tourist memorable holiday experience; from Great Barrier Reef to Sydney Harbor Bridge, Australia have lot to offer (Australia's International Tourism Industry, 2015). In 2018, it is estimated that around 9.2 million people visited the country from overseas. This rate rises to 10 million in 2019 (Australian Government Austrade, 2019).
2.2 Priorities of overseas visitors during planning vacation in country
There are many factors, which influence people in selecting the country for the visit. The famous tourist attraction might be there for foremost factors but there are other factors also, which have significant importance. The facilities offered by the tourism industry and convenience provided by the hotel industry (Montano & Kasprzyk, 2015). Every individual planned its foreign trip long before visiting the country. One of the priorities is selection of the hotel. As suggested by Frolova, Rogach, Kabanova, Medvedeva and Shimanskaya (2017), hotel selection of the individuals is based on many factors, which influence the selection of the hotel. All the individuals prefer to pre-book the hotel for the comfortable visit in the country.
2.3 Common factors influencing selection of the hotel
Money, discounts and facilities offered by the hotels and availability of hotel at the time of the booking play the important role in selection of the hotel. As noted by Radojevic, Stanisic and Stanic (2017), the product available at the hotel is one of the concerns for the visitors. Nowadays, customers read the available reviews of the hotel before making any decision. The hotel with good online reviews and brand image, as well as high customer satisfaction ratings given by the visitors of the hotel resulted into development of the goodwill of the hotel among people.
Most of the people prefer to select the hotel, which are in the centre of the city or near to the local transportation. This allows visitors to reach their hotel early and comfortably or allow them to visit local famous hotels easily. As stated by Chan, Lam, Chow, Fong and Law (2017), hotels providing heavy discount on the expenses or have affordable prices for the people are preferred hotel. Budget is the deciding factor of any vacation. People make the preferences based on their affordability.
For example, if a person has a high budget for the trip, they selected hotels with high facilities, on the contrary, people who have limited budget, prefers hotels offering good discounts along with necessities. As argued by Hernandez-Ortega (2018), leisure and comfort are the most influencing factors, which affect the hospital business. People mostly go with the hotels giving them good deals in comparison to the hotels, which give poor deals.
2.4 Specific factors influencing selection of the hotel
The personal preferences of the guest and the information they received about the hotel play have significant effect on selection of the hotel. As mentioned by Gao and Mattila (2016), personal preferences include customer loyalty and customer satisfaction towards hotel selection. Personal preferences include selection of the hotel or resort having spa and offering good view such as beech or ocean view.
The preferences are given to the hotels, which have views of famous tourist spots like Great Barrier Reef. As indicated by Su and Reynolds (2017), some people make selection of hotels based on the recommendation made by earlier visitors in contact such as family members or friends’ recommendation. In case of planning of visit to the foreign nation, people prefer to take the decision based on the recommendation, as they do not want to suffer poor hospitality. For most of the people, vacation means having new experiences or going on adventure. Certain people selected hotels, which implemented innovative ideas and offer adventure to the visitors. For example, some of the hotels on the island where scuba diving is offered are made in the shape of the cottage where every...
