This case study describes a company calledStayHome, which rents out videos to its members. Thefirst branch ofStayHomewas established in 1982 in Seattle but the company has now grown and hasmany branches throughout the United States. The company’s success is due to the first class service itprovides to its members and the wide and varied stock of videos available for rent. AsStayHomehasgrown, so has the difficulties in managing the increasing amount of data used and generated by thecompany. To ensure the continued success of the company, the Director ofStayHomehas urgentlyrequestedthatadatabaseapplicationbebuilttohelpsolvetheincreasingproblemsofdatamanagement.Belowisa descriptionofa Branch viewofthe company.
Theusers’requirementsspecificationfortheBranchviewislistedintwosections:

sectiondescribesthedatausedbytheBranchview;
sectionprovidesexamplesofhowthedataisusedbytheBranchview(that
is,thetransactionsthatstaffhavetoperformonthedata).
The data held on a branch of StayHome is thebranch addressmade up ofstreet, city, state, and zipcode, and the telephone numbers (maximum of 3 lines). Each branch is given abranch number, whichisuniquethroughout the company.
Each branch of StayHome hasstaff, which includesa Manager, one or more Supervisors, and anumber of other staff.The Manager is responsible for the day-to-day running of a given branch.Eachbranch has several Supervisors and eachSupervisor is responsible for supervising a group ofstaff.The data held ona member of staffis his or hername, position, and salary. Each member of staff isgivena staffnumber,which isunique throughoutthe company.
