1 answer below »

This could be anything you want to advocate for that’s a public health issue. Remember, though, that advocacy is not the same as awareness raising; you want to advocate for a specific thing to be done about that public health issue. So, a particular policy for obesity management or chronic disease management would be fine.

Introduction
Chronic disease has become increasingly challenging situation in different parts of the world. Similarly, Australia is also facing a lot of health issues, especially in chronic disease during the last few decades and it is continuously increasing
at a rapid pace. It has been observed that the majority of population suffering from the chronic disease belong to the indigenous groups, with low socioeconomic structure compared to high socioeconomic group. In this report the detailed discussion is done on an advocacy plan for the identification of the seriousness of the chronic diseases along with the different initiatives taken by the government and non-governmental agencies to solve the issues of increasing chronic diseases.
Advocacy Plan for Chronic Disease Management
Chronic diseases have become one of the most leading cause of illness, disability and deaths in Australia, which has accounted for around 90 percent of all deaths (Aridi et al., 2020). The chronic disease has started to grow from the late 19th century and early 20th century, because of the changing lifestyles and the increase in ageing population, and thus has caused more burden on the ill health. There are different types of illnesses, which can be considered under the chronic illness category, such as heart ailment, hypertension, diabetes, kidney infection or failure, cancer and many more. They often coexist and they share common risk factors, which acts together to cause serious health issues to the people. McCulloch et al. (2020) have discussed that the advent of chronic disease among people are caused by smoking, physical inactivity, poor nutrition and harmful use of alcohol. Along with the above-mentioned chronic disease there is mental health related issues are not the major reason behind the deaths occurred, however, they do cause significant ill health and disability among the population in Australia.
Chronic disease in Australia affects certain population group more than the others. Liu et al. (2020) have discussed that the young indigenous Australians suffer more with the chronic disease, and a two third gap in the death rates between the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and the non-indigenous people do add by the chronic disease. It has been observed that the indigenous people are suffering with diabetes three times more that the other Australians, and the rate of end-stage kidney disease is observed seven times more among indigenous people than the other Australians. Similarly, coronary heart disease has a 40 percent higher death rate, and it has been observed that the lesser rate of decline is there over the period of time among the people living in the areas of the lowest socioeconomic status in comparison to those with highest living standard. Hence, it can be clearly observed that people living in the lower socioeconomic group suffer more with the chronic disease and the number of deaths is also more in this group. Therefore, an advocacy plan is necessary for looking after the grim situation of chronic disease, which has crippled the population of Australia, especially the aboriginal group of people. The advocacy plan will speak out for the communities of Australia across all level of government. The plan will advocate for the reformation in the health policies and developing new ideas while adopting new innovations to look after the matter of increasing chronic disease. Along with the general population, the advocacy plan will especially focus on the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, those who are living in the rural and the remote regions of Australia and the young people who are suffering from a number of different chronic diseases. The advocacy plan will have the short term and long-term goal plan along with the stakeholders involved in solving the critical issue of increasing chronic illness and deaths.
