Introduction
Hurricanes are natural-born disasters that create huge destruction to the land and ecosystem as a whole. In this report, the hurricane, this devastated the United States, in 2017, namely, Hurricane Irma. The location, which was affected the most, was Florida, a state of the United States. This report the state of the environmental problem by the Hurricane and how it is formed. The report further explains the hurricane impact on the ecosystem as well as some benefits of Hurricanes on the ecosystem as a whole.
Statement of the environmental problem
In 2017, three dangerous hurricanes struck the US and brought a huge disaster in the US. One of such hurricanes was Hurricane Irma. Hurricane Irma was a category 5 hurricanes, which caused widespread disaster all over the US (Zhang). It was a mighty hurricane. What made Hurricane Irma worse was because it came two weeks after Hurricane Maria. Hurricane Irma had a wind speed of 181mph (285.1 km/h). It was so powerful and devastated properties worth $77.17 billion (USD). Hurricanes are natural disasters, which cannot be controlled but can be prevented. The problem is the rise of temperature in the atmosphere. If climate change can be controlled, then the number of Hurricanes can reduce.
The geographical location of the problem
The most affected location was the state of Florida. Florida is located in the Southeastern region of the United States. Florida became the landfall of Hurricane Irma. By the time it reached Florida, Hurricane Irma was bringing a category 4 hurricane. The wind speed was around 130 miles/hr. Hurricane destroyed the cell phone service and power cables. Due to heavy rain, many rivers flooded residential areas (Radabaugh). Flooding and water stagnation caused public health risks such as infections and mosquito-borne diseases. Water was not edible as it was contaminated. There was no local water supply. Due to the hurricane, the employment rate went down, and the lives lost due to the Hurricane were 73.
The geological process responsible for the problem
Hurricanes are natural disasters, which cause lots of devastation and loss of human properties. Hurricanes are also known as Cyclones and Typhoons. The Hurricanes are formed on warm ocean water (Issa). The warm water...
