BMG732 Assessment 1: Operations Strategy Essay Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to demonstrate that you are able to raise a structured and reasoned argument about a particular operations management topic. This essay will enable you to understand the link between operations strategy and organisational performance. Date: The due date of the essay is 9am Wednesday 27th March 2019. Weighting: 15% of your course mark. Learning outcome(s) addressed: 2. Explain the link between an operations strategy and organisational performance. Requirement: You are to write an essay which answers the following question: Has the emergence of operations as a strategic discipline led to an increase in organisational performance ? Your essay must answer the question, with clear application of relevant concepts and theory, based on independent secondary research (including peer-reviewed academic journals), and be logical and articulate in its presentation. You will note that whereas we have discussed the parameters of operational performance, consideration of which provides an important framework, the subject of the essay involves the overall performance of the organisation. Organisational performance is often considered in terms of competitive advantage and market share - the 'big picture' which strategy seeks to address - rather than the day- to-day aspects of operational performance. Your essay should consider the relationship between the operations function and overall strategy and performance of the organisation.
