Understand what is required Gain an understanding of reflective practice whilst experimenting with guided prompts. Lived experience of project management “It's like playing the board game, snakes ‘n’ ladders. On good days you land on a square and shoot up a ladder. On bad days you might get bitten and slide down a snakes.” (Whitty, 2010, p. 28) Reflective practice Personal reflective prompts may include considering your definition of success in relation to project success, whereas structured reflection may include addressing selection criteria for a job application. These include tight timeframes, diverse teams and requirements that are not necessarily well defined. Being challenged places us under stress, to a certain point this increases performance. However, as stress increases it will start to diminish our performance. The challenging nature of the unit may have raised differing emotions, you may have felt overwhelmed, excited, frustrated, or a sense of achievement. You may have felt different emotions at different stages of the unit, this is perfectly normal when initiating, planning and managing projects. Reflecting on how we each react to stress is important. It enables us to recognise when we are under stress and how we can manage our reactions effectively. Experiencing challenges of project management in the university context, although uncomfortable enables us to be better prepared for the realities of industry. For example, this unit allows you to make mistakes that are better experienced for first time at university than in industry. Can you think of something you wish you handled better this term? However, we only gain value if we reflect on our experiences and understand how we can utilise these learnings in future work environments. In the following section, you are required to assess five challenging situations and write detailed responses in terms of the: Situation · Describe your experience of the following concepts in the context of the unit, including whether you found this challenging or not. Your Reaction · How did you react (note both feelings and actions) to the challenges? Industry readiness · How does having this experience better prepare you for working in industry? The five challenges are: 3.1 Dealing with the pressures of extremely tight timeframes and limited resources 3.2 Dealing with team dynamics when team members may be diverse, have differing expectations and commitment 3.3 Defining an innovative solution for a social issue that is not your primary area of expertise 3.4 Achieving project delivery for a social issue that is not your primary area of expertise 3.5 Engaging with and eliciting feedback from stakeholders Challenge Situation Your Reaction Industry readiness 3.1 Dealing with the pressures of extremely tight timeframes and limited resources. Is this the same hard skill you wanted to improve (as noted in your Baseline assessment) or different? If different note what the baseline skill was. (Note - technical project management skill is not sufficient, and you must name the specific skill) Situation Task Action Result 4.2 Soft skill Demonstrated Soft Skill Name the soft skill you have demonstrated in project. Is this the same soft skill you wanted to improve (as noted in your Baseline assessment – or different?) If different note what the baseline skill was. Situation Task Action Result Table: Option Descriptions (provides further information about each option): References Make sure that your references comply with APA style and that all references and in-text references map to each other. Given this is your last project management unit, a high level of academic research, writing and referencing is required and evidenced through referencing completed units, academic texts, peer-reviewed journals, current newspaper articles, relevant government departments reports, not-for-profit organisational information, CQU website, allied professional services, personal critical reflections and relevant work experience (where applicable). And as you have studied PMBoK, PRINCE2 and Agile, evidence of this theory and application is required in your assessment. These references will be checked to ensure they are applicable to the information they are used as references for. Falsification of references is deemed
