CULTURAL DIVERSITY AND TEAMWORK

Working with others who came from different cultural background subsequently affected my ability to communicate and accomplish and achieve my personal goals. On the positive side it is considered that cultural diversity is a very important and useful seeking the integration in the workplace and the success of the organization. But the other side reflects that cultural diversity can have certain aspects that would not be preferable and positive for the people working in that background. In my case I find it certainly difficult to communicate and accomplish my goals due to cultural diversity owing to certain factors. But as there is a positive in everything similarly in find certain benefits too by working in a diverse cultural background. Some of the benefits and challenges include-
Challenges
Professional Communication is Misinterpreted- one of the major reasons that affected my ability to communicate in diverse cultural backgrounds was misinterpretation. As in the diverse background there are employees from different culture and background. All of them belong to distinct places where they have different communication scenarios. As the non-verbal communication is a delicate and nuanced part of cultural interaction most of the time it become a matter of issue and conflict with the team mates. As some of the non-verbal communication used by me was considered as offence in the people who belong to a different country than me and they misinterpret what I actually want to communicate and in the meanwhile I was mostly confused regarding what actions to use during the conversation and what to avoid (Gopalkrishnan et al., 2018).
Degraded my Morale- one of the things I observed with working with people from distinct cultural background affected my ability to communicate by degrading my morale. As I am very good in communicating in my own language and i was quite confident regarding my communication skills. But with the cultural diversity language barriers also came into existence and it was quite difficult for me to interact with the people who are unable to understand my language and whom language I am also unable to understand. In the midst of the situation my morale was going down.
