Introduction

The cognitive behavioral therapy theory or the CBT theory suggests that the thoughts, emotions, body sensations, and the behavior of the person are all connected, which indicates that what a person thinks and does affects the way they feel. The cognitive behavioral therapy theory focuses on several aspects that are clearly related and connected with how an individual feels. The theory also indicates that CBT is considered as an effective treatment for conditions from anxiety, depression, pain as well as insomnia.
The CBT is considered as one of the most proficient therapy considering its nature of action, the main focus of the therapy is problem oriented with an emphasis on the present. It is one of the most proficient and major therapy that not only deals with the problems that are experienced by the individuals but also connects to the major causes behind it.
Author of CBT Theory
Dr. Aaron T. Beck is considered as the author of the cognitive therapy or the cognitive behavior therapy theory. The theory was formulated by him in the year 1960 while he was a psychiatrist at the University of Pennsylvania. Two of the earliest forms of the cognitive behavioral therapy theory were rationale emotive behavior therapy (REBT), which was developed by Albert Ellis in the 1950s, and cognitive therapy that was developed by Aaron T. Beck in the 1960s. The CBT theory is a therapeutic approach within the larger group of cognitive behavioral therapies, which was expounded by Beck (Quilty, 2020).
History
The CBT theory has a profound history that illustrates the reason for its existence. The theory was formulated by Aaron Beck who was a psychiatrist by profession he formulated the idea of this therapy after analyzing and noticing that most of his patients had internal dialogues that were almost a form of them talking to themselves. Beck initiated the theory after observing his patients and clearly analyzing the behavioral changes in them. He clearly observed that the thoughts of his patients impacted their feelings and he used to refer to it as automatic thoughts. Beck named the theory as CBT theory because it substantially focuses on the thought process of each patient (Majd, 2020).
